EE pulling a fast one changing contracts to 4G?
I have an unlimited data package with EE and am on 3G. I was called by EE last week and offered a discounted rate of £2 to join their 4G network.
Firstly I told the guy that I'm not in a 4G area, although he would have known that. His response was that joining their 4G network would increase my 3G speed. Is this correct?
After repeated questions on how my contract would actually change he eventually had to admit that the new contract would result in my download no longer being unlimited and capped at 1.5GB.
I feel that he obscured that fact until it was absolutely necessary, attempted to get me on a network that wasn't available in my area (Farnham) and potentially lied telling me that me speed on 3G would increase.
I'm annoyed that they're doing this to people who won't question them like I did. Any suggestions how I take this forward?

It's typical - EE salesmen are notorious for hard selling and lying (well, obscuring all important facts). In your case I think it was a pure lie that the speed would be higher.
Numerous similar reports here from victims that were less cautious then you.0 -
If you're already an EE customer, then you would already have access to 4G (where available). Whereas Orange and T-Mobile customers can currently only receive a 3G service, all EE customers can receive 4G.I have an unlimited data package with EE and am on 3G. Do you have a 4G capable phone? If not, it would be pointless anyway.
And your 3G speeds would not increase because you'd be using the same 3G network as currently.
In other words, he's talking crap. You would be paying £2 extra per month for the privilege of having less data. What will your verse be?

I would have to agree with the above comments regarding an improved, faster 3G service if you go on a 4G tariff.
I am an iphone 5 user on 4G with EE but only have 3G coverage at my home address. My wife is an orange customer who uses a windows phone.
Her 3G connection is 2x as fast as my 3G connection at home. Why? I don't know, our phones have equal capability as far as connecting to 3G. I also suspect we are connecting to the same mast as well.0 -

There could be a number of reasons for the different connection speed. you wife might be getting HSPA+ while your just getting 3G
This could simply be down to the signal each phone is getting, or how they handle the signal, not all phones are equal, even if they have the same capabilities.0 -
Yep, It's a known issue that EE are mis-selling to customers.
It works for people on Orange because the data limit is 1GB and EE retentions can do 1GB for the same price anyway (excl recurring loyalty discounts)
Where as on T-Mobile they don't tell you till the end and in some cases don't tell you at all that you're losing out on data. In fact i've heard people being lied to on Orange as well.
It's not one big scam though, as long as you know your stuff you'll know what you're getting and what you're losing. For a lot of people 4G is a good option.0 -
I've just been caught out by this. I was an Orange iphone5 customer, received a phone call last week telling me I had been upgraded to Orange Premier customer and would receive a free 4G sim. Nothing would change, same tariff same allowances (unlimited minutes & texts, 1GB data), contract would have same end date, no catch. Happy days! No mention at all of EE. There is no 4G where I live, in fact there is not even 3G so 4G is a futuristic fantasy! However, for a no change/no catch deal, why not?
He did also say I would have a better mobile signal. I knew hat much was bull since I was on EE network anyway.
Tuns out that I have switched to EE ( I don't mind that particularly) BUT today I have discovered that I have also lost 250MB of data on my tariff. So I've been switched to a network unavailable where I live and lost data. I called today to sort this out. Was promised it would be sorted and I'd be called back.
This was at 10.30 am. Still waiting.......
I will take this further. I only switched to Orange 3 months ago and already they are trying to rip me off!!0 -

I remember your post.
Apart from the guy blatantly lying to you about staying on Orange and being a premium customer he should have added the 1GB. To be honest i have no idea what's going on at EE HQ and why they're so incompetent. Like i said in my post above, this is not the first time this has happened.
I'd suggest getting them to listen to the recorded call (which they 100% have a copy of) and they should add it.
But i agree, not the best experience of a company. Especially since the majority of people will have no idea what 4G is and sign up without knowing what they're gaining/losing.0 -
They still haven't sorted it and now I've noticed they started a new 24 month contract from the date I switched SIMs, which is in complete contradiction to what I was promised. I feel bitterly disappointed with Orange/EE, so far it's just been blatant lies. If anyone else is offered this fabulous deal - do yourselves a favour and tell them to shove it!0

Yeh, the thing is he told you the right deal. Which was fine. But he also lied and manipulated you into signing up to it. I helped clear up some things and said it;s actually a good deal but the perks were made up, but the deal was legit. And then in the end he didn't even put you on the right deal.
SO if you know the deals and what EE4G is then that's fine, you'll know if you're being lied to. If you have no idea then it's likely the staff on the phone are lying to you about the perks/price plan. (although the price plan may be right)0
