There is a reason they are cheaper - as has been pointed out. In other words, you get what you pay for generally.
In a perfect consumers world, retailers will fall over themselves to solve any problems for you - regardless of where the blame lies. But the good thing about stores like SD is that they make you appreciate those companies who go above and beyond, rather than thinking excellent customer service provided by companies who go above and beyond is the norm/their entitlement. You keep using that word. When YOU make a mistake why should SD and their customers have to take the hit? If they offered you an exchange or a credit note they've given you more than your statutary rights.

What are you talking about? - it's not a philosophy; it's the law.
Otherwise every customer would be able to take everything they buy back for a refund!
If you want the right to return goods for no other reason that you have changed your mind you need to ascertain which retailers have that policy and shop in those shops.
Yes YOU made a mistake. Why should SD be 'out of pocket' for something that's not their fault?
Customer service is not the tenet by which SD operate. They aim to sell goods in high numbers at low prices and that's their philosophy! So, basically, other people should pay for your mistakes.0 -
This has probably been mentioned already but whilst SD do not refund, they do allow you to exchange goods. Therefore why did you not choose the next size up or is this more of a case of buyers remorse?
I would just like to point out that I have no connection with Sports Direct (I get claustrophobic just being inside the store!):beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

The OP answered your question in his original post where he says:[Deleted User] wrote:I took them back a few hours later and tried on another pair a half size up but the fit was all wrong. Nothing else fitted properly so I asked for a refund.0 -

Well....yes.
Who else would you expect to pay for your mistakes?0 -

Well naturally, yes, you should pay for your own mistakes!
I'm a little baffled as to why you didn't wear thick sports socks if you went out to buy sports shoes??
The shops policy is absolutely correct, as the goods are not faulty - you just bought the wrong pair.
Could you get a credit note and buy something else? They might give a credit note as a good will gesture...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

SD aren't strictly retailers, they're essentially vending machines - they have goods which they sell, but don't give a rats backside about it once the product is out of their hands.
Although with that said, the customer service skills of a vending machine are vastly superior!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0
