As I've stated previously, why cannot I not claim a little help (Only 3 goddamn months) after the tax I've paid?

I've rather see that tax back in my pocket that funding Syrian Rebel guns. :rotfl:

If you were earning £606 per month then you should have not being paying tax so you can apply for a refund as you earnt less than your personal allowance

I'm 23, I graduated from university two years ago (with a good, non-micky mouse degree, I might add), and I've been working in admin on a similar wage to you ever since because of a lack of graduate jobs where I am. I share a flat with a friend as I can't afford to live alone, and I spend far less on food than £150 a month! My car had to be scrapped recently and I can't afford to replace it, but honestly, it's not all that bad! Your life is what you make of it.

I decided I'm not happy with my career prospects where I am right now, so I'm starting a postgraduate degree in September that'll hopefully lead to a professional qualification that'll give me a career for life.

If you're not happy with your life, then do something about it :) don't wait around complaining that the government won't help you, because I imagine you'll be waiting around for a while!

You raise a good point. I should proactively find better and cheaper (yet healthy!) sources for my food.

It's not about not having the energy or determination - but I work Monday - Friday 9-5. I mow lawns on a Saturday.

I go boxing once a week after work, and do home physio therapy all the other days, on top of that I'm now looking for a second job and will shortly be spending 20 hours a week studying for the OU.

There's not enough hours in the day!

Totally understand. I am a mum to 3 boys, ages 15, 12 and 8. I work full time. I basically do the work while they are at school and then spend evenings when they have gone to bed writing reports. Sometimes I don't get to bed until 2am and then I am up again at 7:30am to get breakfasts ready and the boys to school. The school run is a 12 mile round trip, so I have to take them (and pick them up). There is no bus that they can get.

I teach 2 or 3 nights a month and run a parent and toddler group 2 mornings a week during term time. I also ferry the boys to lessons for piano, guitar and drums. One son ice skates 3 times a week too (and I do it with him, its great fun).

Then there is Cubs which my youngest attends. My middle one wants to start fencing. I also do all the food shopping and cook most meals from scratch. My husband does the washing and cooks on a weekend.

I could spend more on food, but we really enjoy holidays. If I can spend less on food, we get to go away more.

As I always say to my sons, you work hard to earn your money and can only spend it once, so spend it wisely.

Well Poopy- oops I mean Poppie! We shan't find out as I'll be leaving the country when my degree is completed.

Anyway - I intend to quit smoking in two months time - I'll be stepping up my boxing. (Not that I owe you any explanations)

Tax is tax, it's not a savings pot. If you wanted one of those you shouldn't have taken up smoking and put the money in the bank instead. Think of all those tenners you have set light too, and the money you will be burning for the next two months until you quit.

A 13k is on the low side for a full time wage but it's quite possible to manage on it with some work.

There are two adults in this house (plus a cat) all in I don't think we come that near to £150 per month for food.

Benefits are for those in need. What you need is budgeting advice, not benefits. Luckily MSE is a fab place for that and you already have gotten some great tips.

Even when I had a good wage I didnt spend 150 in food in a month. Have you looked at aldi or lidl ? Cooking on a Sunday and then freezing for the rest of the week saves loads.
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j
