It's the Canadian dollar, current business rate is about CAD 2.14 to the £
There are 1.08 Canadian dollars to the US dollar, and apart from border towns they will charge you to take them...

i've never actually used travellers cheques - so do i basically exhcnage £1000 minimum for these cheques which I can just use in the states anywhere?
