There are charges if you use certain debit cards. When I rang she checked with over the phone and told me not to use my Visa debit card. I used my Switch one and I think Maestro is free from charges also.

Many thanks to OP, had to go to quite a bit of trouble to get this deal but cashier reckoned I saved over £300. Yippee!
There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.

Years ago, in error, I signed one of my wife's cheques in a restaurant in Florida. No-one batted an eyelid, never asked for passport or any identification. Just gave us the change in cash, no problems.

Things may well have changed so will make sure I will be carrying my passport.

You take them to a bank with your passport and change them for currency. Or at least that's what I did in South Africa!

Just use them like cash. Very unlikely you'll be asked for any ID. I usually carry my photocard part of my driving licence as ID. Never had any problems using TC's in 15 years of visiting the US.

In fact probably only been asked for ID on less than 5% of times using them all over the US not just the toursity bits.

My sister phoned a number of branches before going to get them and was told by one branch that had none left, if you go and order and pay for them they will honour the rate.

Not quite sure how you can save over £300 with this, as over rates offered
elsewhere I reckon it'd only be a maximum of about £140 on the top amount of £3k, but hey, still a good deal, so I'm not knocking it!

This may be a silly question, but arnt I better off just using my nationwide card whilst abroad?

No, it will be my first time and going with about 10 - 12 other people

Any advice on things that you would reccomend doing other than gambling...lol we are planning to go to a hun range but that is the only thing we have in mind so far apart from a meal at the stratosphere

No, because you are getting a fixed rate of $2 to the £1 and it is highly unlikely unless something drastic happens in the market that you will achieve this rate via regular "tourist" rates which is close to what you will get using your Nationwide card (I have one too, but have yet to use it abroad)
