i've never actually used travellers cheques - so do i basically exhcnage £1000 minimum for these cheques which I can just use in the states anywhere?
You take them to a bank with your passport and change them for currency. Or at least that's what I did in South Africa! The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

We just handed them over in shops, restaurants, hotels etc (they will give you back any change in dollers cash). You will have to show your passport, but as you should aways have ID on you in the states, that should not be a problem.
Think I may have to get £1000 worth.Josey0 -

Still at 1.96 to buy, so off to Thomas Cook today, cannot go wrong at that rate.Josey0 -
I suppose they are trying to pick up a bit of buisiness by doing this special rate. The sales of travellers cheques has gone down from what it used to be and a load of people are being made redundant at Thomas Cook because of it!0
