S3 Mini is nowhere near as good a phone as an S3 - it's not, as the label suggests, just a smaller version, it's completely different and a lower spec phone. Avoid!
I've got a Nexus 4 and it's fantastic. Must live in a case though. Slips off even non-slippery surfaces!

Agreed. My son wasn't keen on using a case for his Nexus 4 but luckily he succumbed to my nagging after i showed him how slippy the back is and bought one of the £3 el cheapos off ebay. He's dropped the phone a few times onto our wooden floor and, touch wood, not a scratch.

If you dont want anything as big as the S3, do you realise the Nexus 4 is just about as big?

The N4 is a little smaller, but there is only a few mm in it. SGS3 is thinner.

The Nexus 4 is an excellent phone and worth it for the "Pure Android" experience. I had a go on a friends S4 and couldn't get on with it at all, I guess I am too used to the stock Android experience now.

I don't have a case. But I have learnt not to put it down on sloped surfaces!

I've got an N4 and a cheap £3 bumber from ebay, does the job perfectly.
