Cheap & Nasty Birthday Presents - what's the worst you've seen?

Options
Light-hearted thread!

When my son was a few years younger and was on the birthday party circuit, the general present spend was £10. Reading another thread it occurred to me that we had a funny present one year - a three-bladed boomerang with a circular thing around the outsides joining the tips of the blades together. Cheap, nasty plastic, certainly less than £1 and this was from a family who had a few quid to spend. It rather made us laugh.

What's your worst/most naff child's birthday present experience?

A black velveteen hair band with my name on it in gold glitter and matching patent leatherette handbag. Seen at pound shop marketed at 3 to 6 year olds.

The birthday I was celebrating was my 35th.

Nope was not bought for a laugh.

A 3ft high garden gnome from my wife...
I was furious as i take my gardening very serious but she thought it was hilarious....
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

One of my rellies must have been told that I like reading. So they decided to get me some books. Books that were so, SO awful and tacky, I mean worse than mills&boon :rotfl: I was embarrassed to even give them away to the charity shop.

Books that I had read, passed down to my younger sister, she read and once she had "outgrown" them, gave them to the church jumble sale. I was then given them by a friend of the family for my next birthday. (13th)

You could see my name in them where I had written it 6 or so years earlier. :(

I was thinking of naff presents that your children had been given - but this is much, much better!

My son was given a pocket-money type (ie poundshop quality) spirograph toy for his 6th birthday. However when he opened the present the packaging was coming apart and the mechanical wheel was rusty and oozing more rust! The packaging was see through so this really couldn't have been missed. It looked as though it was a few years old and had been stored somewhere damp. It ended up in the bin. We were not impressed especially as this was from one of his best friends! His mother never really did like me.
