    Hi,

I'm quite intrigued as to why you thought is was a private plate.

I've never taken notice of NI number plates before and !!!-u-me'd all the UK had the same style number plates i.e. different format = private or imported. I did ask if it was imported and he said 'no' which in my mind left 'private'. :o

Having spoken to the salesman this morning he says he was going to phone me as he hadn't realised it was NI either until yesterday (not sure if that's a porky).

OP - I wouldnt be surprised if this is an ex motability car.

Nothing wrong with it but as pointed out it wouldnt have had an MOT done in NI until it was 4 years old.

Evans Halshaw would have done one over here before putting it on the forecourt.

I've just had a call back and it was a mobility car with full service history.

    Hi,

Some people choose NI number plates as personal number plates, when I was buying a car last time the car I almost bought had an NI plate as a private number and the one I did buy also had an NI plate as a personal number plate. Both cars were bought and originally registered in Scotland and reverted to Scottish number plates when the owners took the NI plate back off.

It has full service history done at main dealership all stamped and dated in the book.

It would seem to be the the original number plate so I've asked for it to be left on.
Taken from hpi t&c 4.5.5any Vehicle acquired outside Great Britain or not registered in Great Britain at the time of the HPI Check (for example if you source the Vehicle from Northern Ireland or elsewhere in Europe) or in respect of which no vehicle data is supplied to us by the DVLA, or any event which occurred prior to the first registration of any Vehicle in Great Britain or during any period when the Vehicle ceased to be registered in Great Britain and in each case whether or not the HPI Check result displays an import marker.

A HPI check has been done and I will be given the certificate to keep with the paperwork.

Thanks for all your reply's I feel better about buying it now.

Good luck with the car. As others have said, it won't make a blind bit of difference that it's from NI. It will have UK spec, UK reg docs, etc.... NI isn't Ireland! It won't be counted as an import.
I would be a tad concerned about it being EH- we don't have them over here I think, but I do know plenty with bad tales of them.

Bought my BMW from a main dealer in the London area, it is also from NI on a NI plate, absolutely no difference whatsoever in spec, in registering it, warranty etc etc. Had a previous car on a NI plate as well, no issues at all, no difference to one from the mainland except the numberplate of course.

Glad its worked out well, just hope for your sake you never need Evans Halshaw for anything on warranty as they seem to get awful reviews.

    Thank you.
I've read the reviews on EH so decided to pay the difference on my credit card (paying it of next month of course) then if anything major goes wrong at least I have some fallback. Luckily they don't charge for using CC's unlike Perry's.

it cost me £50 for a certificate of conformity before I could get a UK 'plate.
If this was paid, it didn't need to be. This is for importing cars, and an NI car doesn't need to be imported to mainland GB.
The numberplate system is different, our DVA separate, in Coleraine instead of Swansea, but you can transfer over no problem (as long as you get someone well trained enough on the phone!).
As mentioned, we do our MOT every 4 years for cars, and it's at government run centres, so rather than trying to sell you something, or letting a dodgy car through for a mate, they just pass or fail it depending on what they see.
When I'm in GB I'm often surprised by the bangers I see driving around.
I went the other way, and bought a car in England to bring back here. A couple of weeks to get it changed to 'my' DVA from the English one was the only hassle. Never bothered to re-register to NI plates but you can re-register if you wish...
