Does the satnav have a NI accent. That would put me off.

Make sure that it is to the same specification as a Mainland UK car, certainly Eire cars are not, having KM only Speedo and usually a lower trim level due to higher car taxes over there.

Also registering it in the UK is not a trivial matter, but hopefully the dealer will sort all that out for you.

What nonsense. Of course it will be UK spec.

And nothing will need done to 'register' the car other that the change of ownership on the V5.

I gathered from the posts that the car was from NI? Despite the horrific troubles over many years, I believe NI is still currently in the UK?

Southern Ireland Cars are to a much lower spec, I said I don't know about NI cars, but it may have been a cross border import already, first registration does not necessarily mean first turn of the wheels.

Anecdotally, when I made the mistake of buying a NI registered car several years ago, it cost me £50 for a certificate of conformity before I could get a UK 'plate.

Maybe things are different in the 21st century, but in my experience bureaucracy and jobs-worthiness increase over time.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

To be quite honest I'd be more concerned about the fact that the seller is Evans Halshaw than the fact that the car is from NI.

A quick search of this very forum will show you why. Don't expect them to honour any warranty without a fight.

It a Northern Ireland car, which is part of the uk. The car will be to UK spec, unless its an import (which is an issue on the mainland too)

Registering it on the mainland shouldnt be an issue as here in NI our v5's are processed and printed by Swansea anyway.

Not so with the v5 doc as ours here in NI are processed in Swansea too. It should be a simple matter to tax it.

    Hi,

I'm quite intrigued as to why you thought is was a private plate.

I've gone through the alphabet and prefixed 'UI', nothing stands out, maybe 'FUI', hope it's not **** you Ireland.

I agree, the salesman should've know that and explained, maybe the advice in post 17 should be heeded.

It will have to be taxed at a LVLO rather than Post Office using a v55/5. but EH will do this - but make sure they reg'r it in your name/address and not theirs first.

But like Lum says - I'd be more concerned about the fact its EH lol.
