I went looking at cars on Saturday and found a nice one at Evans Halshaw.
It looked like it had a private number plate on, when I asked the salesman about the car before he got the keys he said '.oh, the car that looks like it's private number plates'. I asked about the number plate, how many owners and service history before the test drive and was told he check when we came back. I must admit I was so taken with the car that I forgot to get the answers.
I will be phoning tomorrow to check all the above - I'm due to pick the car up on Friday having paid £100 deposit.
The car was first registered in Jan 2010 but in Northern Ireland. The main thing that is worrying me is the HPI check - he said all cars they sell have the check and not to worry. The company's that I've looked at do not check Northern Ireland. I take it as I'm buying from a dealership I'm covered if anything pops up.
Also does anyone know if the service and MOT's are the same in Northern Ireland.
Anything else I should worry about or check on tomorrow?
Thanks for your time.

P.s. I only found out it was from NI when I was checking the car registration plate out and I'm a bit peeved that the salesman didn't tell me.

I once bought a car from England, funnily enough it didn't bother me!

This bit should have been obvious from the registration plate. It would be the format of something like BFZ 1234 which is an NI plate rather than a 'private' plate.

Don't know about HPI but I don't think cars in NI need an MOT until they are 4 years old. However I presume that your dealer would have had one done before putting the car on sale.

Ah, but did you know you were buying a car from England? :p

I think that fact that he skirted around my questions and then I was silly enough not to remember to ask them again is what's bothering me, Plus the HPI check that I did ask about.

Taken from hpi t&c 4.5.5any Vehicle acquired outside Great Britain or not registered in Great Britain at the time of the HPI Check (for example if you source the Vehicle from Northern Ireland or elsewhere in Europe) or in respect of which no vehicle data is supplied to us by the DVLA, or any event which occurred prior to the first registration of any Vehicle in Great Britain or during any period when the Vehicle ceased to be registered in Great Britain and in each case whether or not the HPI Check result displays an import marker.

The reg is *UI **** I've since found out that Z & I are NI plate. I must admit it's not something I've ever taken notice of, but can't understand why he didn't just say that it's from NI. I did ask if it was an import and he didn't lie as cars from NI isn't importing as part of UK mainland.

OP - I wouldnt be surprised if this is an ex motability car.

Nothing wrong with it but as pointed out it wouldnt have had an MOT done in NI until it was 4 years old.

Evans Halshaw would have done one over here before putting it on the forecourt.

    Thanks.
Why do you think it could be an ex mobility car and how can you tell if it's is? not that it would bother me.
I thought they MOT'd the car once it's sold if it has less than six months left on it rather than having it sat on the forecourt with the MOT running out.

As others have said the mot here is at 4 years old on a new car then yearly after that.Doubt if there would be much wrong with it at just over 3 year old.If you ever do buy a car from here thats been MOTd one thing to be aware of is its a lot tougher here as garages dont do the mot here rather its government centres.
And the reg number on the car you mentioned *UI is I believe a londonderry registration.

Thank you. Wish the government over here would do the same.

Make sure that it is to the same specification as a Mainland UK car, certainly Eire cars are not, having KM only Speedo and usually a lower trim level due to higher car taxes over there.

Also registering it in the UK is not a trivial matter, but hopefully the dealer will sort all that out for you.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
