Deet - N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide - the main ingredient of mossy repellents.

Boots do a range of 50% deet - often on 3 for 2. You can get spray ons or screw tops you can apply with cotton wool. You cant put it on your face.

People will thank you for pointing out their shoelace is undone - they won't for you pointing out their spelling, punctuation, grammar, mathematical error etc.

Mmmm.... Yes, the people in society do seem very strange in that respect (when this is looked at objectively, from a distance).

In fact if people tell me my shoelace is undone or my shirt isn't tucked in (and goodness me I have shoes with untying laces and shirts that keep tucking themselves out occasionally) - if they tell me about that, I get inclined to think they are picking me up and comes across as an unjust criticism of me - especially as things like shoelaces not being tied or occasionally forgetting certain of these types of things are possibly more likely in a person with Asperger syndrome. (Sometimes I have to work a little harder than most people in order to achieve the same thing.)

However, if people pointed out my spelling, grammar or punctuation error, I'd be inclined to agree (assuming they were correct I had made an error) and thank them for doing so. I just left from work tonight thinking (of the small group of colleagues I'd been talking with) "you are all so perfect, aren't you???" I thought best to just quit, say nothing else (as they then had starting talking among themselves) and go home, otherwise I'd end up annoying myself more at their unjustified expressed or implied criticism of me and digging myself more into a hole. Of course, when telling them how some people got things wrong, I had to be honest and mention some of my own errors - thus yet again failing to do justice to myself by acknowledging a fact that undermined my own argument - they then seemed to turn the tables and suggest only I ever got anything wrong (there was no joking tone or banter in what they were saying) and that they were always doing everything absolutely correctly from the very beginning even at the start of their training on a particular task. These being the very people who constantly miss things out, make mistakes and can't update databases accurately or properly.

Call that "arrogant" if you want to. Is Tesco's "Finest" food "arrogant" because, by being called "Finest", it is therefore making a superiority claim or otherwise suggesting it is superior to other food sold by Tesco? Are those radio stations that claim to play the "best mix of music" therefore "arrogant"? What about all advertising? Surely the whole basis is to suggest that their product is superior to someone else's? Yet no-one (or I never heard anyone) criticises any of that for its "arrogance" or gets offended by it for that reason. I'll end it there. Perhaps with some degree of a relevant point on money-saving etc.-related topics.
