I have just counted 11 machines listed on one hacked Ebay user account. The account is that of a Top Rated Selled. The seller has stated that they will be away until 9th June 2013. One of the machines is listed as:

    330930475031 1959 massey ferguson mf35 4cyl tractor

I haven't even mentioned the latest craze: the 'second chance offer scam'. It's another issue that eBay are doing next to nothing about.
I was a 'victim' of that as a seller. A customer emailed me about this a few years ago and I opened a dialogue with a scammer trying to sell me my own stock. This was the reason Ebay made bidder ids private (as scammers were using bots to guess email addresses from ids) they then had a backlash that they were encouraging shill bidding.
    .
  • And I have to admit I was very nearly a victim as a buyer myself, maybe 2 months ago. I'm still bemused. I bid for a car being sold by 'carswithnoreserve' and didn't win. Disappointed. But not long after that, the same evening, I received one of these 'second chance offers' and at the time it didn't even cross my mind that it was a scam. I was in dialogue with a guy calling himself 'Andy' who sent me some bank details which was a US bank in New York. Then he sent some different bank details, Barclays I think (not sure) but by this time I was getting suspicious. Very fortunately for me, I pulled out.

As the bishop said to the actress.

Slightly more than I found yesterday – I only managed to find 27 of them!. These may also be added to the list:

    Ford 8340 Tractor
Kubota B6000 4wd Compact Mini Tractor front loader backhoe rear digger
KUBOTA KX41-3 MINI DIGGER AND INDESPENTION PLANT TRAILER
2009 Yanmar ke-140 Compact tractor 4wd with loader, forks, winch, digger

In post 32 (time 1:19pm yesterday) I reported that I had counted 11 machines listed on a single hacked user account. At 10:55pm yesterday I observed that 4 of the same machines were still listed on the same hacked user account.

Allowing this to happen is surely nothing short of an absolute disgrace.
  • Allowing this to happen is surely nothing short of an absolute disgrace.

Well that's the thing. More than a disgrace, I aim to prove in a court of law that it is ILLEGAL.

If banks can be punished for knowingly selling PPI, I believe eBay can be punished for knowingly listing 'sales of fraud'. I know their legal dept will say that eBay can/will hide behind the breech of rules thing (when a financial transaction takes place outside of eBay) but the fact that such a transaction can be publicly seen every single day (there were 34 yesterday alone) is not compatible with such an escape-clause.

If anybody reading this is a victim of an eBay-related scam, I would like them to contact me. Similarly, if anyone reading this knows (of) someone who is a victim of an eBay-related scam, I would like them to contact me.

Reporting eBay scams is all well and good - I've been doing it for over 8 years - but the time is long overdue to do something much more decisive, something that will all but wipe it out.

If I can find a group of people who have all fallen victim to eBay scams, I believe I can make the biggest difference so far.

Bottom line is "if it looks too good to be true........"

    Honest people seldom get scammed.

I wouldn't put it like that.

eBay-savvy people seldom get scammed - yes.

But the people who do get scammed are sometimes victims because they are honest; because they only see the good in others. They trust others too easily. You could say: They are gullible.

Most of the people caught in these scams are the ones that thought they were going to get something for considerably less than it was worth. A bit of greed stopped them from questioning why.

Well, I like a bargain as much as anyone else. I'm always trying to pay the lowest price - that's not out of greed, it's out of necessity. I've spoken to someone who lost £7000 to one of these 'tractor scammers' last year - he was a farmer and he couldn't afford to buy a new tractor so the listing (for a Massey Ferguson valued at about £20,000) was very attractive to him. He now knows how stupid he was, because that's the word he used, but we're all wiser with the benefit of hindsight.

I wouldn't call him greedy though.
