Scam Warning

It would appear that scammers are somehow hacking Ebay accounts and advertising expensive items such as Diggers, tractors, other plant etc.

This weekend the scammer's items appear to usually start at around £244.00.

Text is usually added to the effect:

Advertising for a good friend
JCB 8015 Digger
THE QUICK PRICE IS £2,500.00
For more info do me a big favour and contact him directly at: email address as i am at work and won't be able to keep a track of the messages and pass them all day long.
SIMPLY CONTACT HIM DIRECTLY
Genuine sale so good luck

Anyone who pays these scammers will almost certainly lose their money.

NEVER CONTACT THEM OR PAY THEM.

How do you know it's a scam?

Why will they lose their money?

What person in their right mind would hand over £2500 without even seeing the digger?

How do you know they are hacking other peoples accounts?

By close observation of digger and items of plant items on ebay - I was looking to possible purchase a mini digger myself.

For a removed (ended) item that was subjected to the scam see item number: 251280565678

For a scam warning by another person affected by the scammers see Ebay item number: 111072697581

I have already seen three items listed today on Ebay thay appear to be affected by this scam. There will no doubt be more.

I see, so they are hoping people will just part with cash electronically or by some other means (western union etc) without seeing the digger, so not an eBay scam exactly, just using eBay as the advertising means.

The items concerned are often been offered at half their true value or less. Some people do pay out for things without asking questions. Look how many people pay private parking "fines" without question.

It is tempting to email them and ask to go and see it.

Not legitimate advertising though if done through a hacked account. Smacks of serious criminal activity.
  • very much a scam, any contact or payments that is not authorised by ebay, you are at risk of losing your money with no protection from ebay. learnt the hard way :(

And another? Appears to be the same JCB digger that was for sale in Bodmin Yesterday. Today however it is for sale in Chelmsford.

    Ebay item number: 261221292820

Ebay really needs to urgently take steps to prevent this type of criminal activity.

They certainly do know about it.
