Thanks.

I do actually have a Cahoot Account, so I can use that, it just seems strange that I can withdraw money from the Post Office, but not pay it in to my NW Account.

Obviously they are not over keen for me to put money in to their account.:rotfl:
P.O. counters are only linked to Alliance and Leicester - that's only bank where cash is credited instantly. The other banks which do allow paying in have to go by post as it were - the payment is processed into the account later. Nationwide could join that scheme I suppose but it would not be the instant banking we are used to expecting.

[If A&L could 'host' payments through, of course, there is no reason credits at a counter should not be instant too. Think how a debit card works - 'taking' money from any account 'instantly'. In fact only value 'leaves' the account straightaway - the actual withdrawal is at least a day after as your bank doesn't need that info just to pay for your goods. However, refunds are capable of working in the say way: "Here's £50 credit to Mr Jones' account....the payee's details will follow shortly", so this could/should be on the drawing board IMO]

You can pay in funds to a NW BASIC bank account at a PO.

Cash is credited instantly to Smile and Co-op accounts too when paid in over a PO counter.

How can they tell the difference in the Post Office?

I have a NW FlexAccount with ATM card and cheque book, so it's a full account minus the debit card but the ATM card is identical to the one you'd get with the basic account.
