hi first post here and i need some urgent advice .well start from the begining my partner got a job and while we was waiting for workingtax etc we went to cheque centre and got a loan started of at 80 pounds pay 105 back i think it was anyhow we then got caught in the trap of renewing stupid i no but please dont lecture me .anyway we now owe them 970 pounds in total on four seperate loans 282 a week we need to pay back .
my partner is on 10 pound an hour doing a 6-7 day week so we could manage the payments but now hours have been cut we cant pay the repayments well tried speaking to cheque centre they wont help, the bank cant do anything as not a DD help i dont no what to do they took all partners wages yesterday 220 went in they left us with 4.81 so i still owe for this week.rang plus 70 workin tax .this morning spoke to store manager who said we cant have a paymnt plan as our account wont be in head office until they try to take the money again next week after bank hol. tried to explain they have left us with no money at all they wernt a bit bothered that was our food electric n gas money .is there a law against this so worried they will take it again next week .btw i no we owe them and were prepared to pay it but just need the ammount decreasing for the time being worst mistake ever getting involved with them .they have now said we have a 30 pound late fee also for the remainder of the money .asked for the money back as they took my child benefit and was told no thats what charities are for they will give me food .im sorry but partner works full time we shouldnt have to go to charities because a horrid person wont just let us decrease payments had to cancel all other direct debits just glad when he had a good week atr begining of month we paid rent in full partner is paid weekly we have no money coming in until fri we get wrking tax that day aswell they took tht also .anybody dealt with these n got them to agree to repayment plan any advice xx

Open a new basic bank account - with a bank unrelated to your existing bank - and get all salary/ tax credit / benefit payments paid into that account. As for this week, friends / family I'm afraid.

You said you could have paid the amount back but, clearly, you couldn't, and that's how you have ended up in this mess. Once this outfit can't get the money, they will agree a payment plan with you quickly enough.
  • hi thanks for the reply were opening a new account on tuesday partners working today so couldnt go.we could have paid it back as i said he was doing a 6-7 day week 8 hour shifts and is on way above min wage its just all of a sudden hours reduced .
like i said hes paid weekly so thats not to bad spoke to cheque centre again she said shes sending it back to head office and to contact them on tuesday when they re open .hopefully they wil come to an arrangement with us .

If you cancel the DD yourself, make sure the mandate is removed to prevent them trying again. There is no need to open a basic account to 'hide' from hem.
  • Things can not be so bad if you can turn your nose up at a foodbank (always gets me sorry)
Do be a little more grateful to the bow worthy charities providing this service - your children will not stave at least?? thats the main thing, it's an incredible thing these foodbanks, please don't knock it

In the nicest way, obviously your partner doesn't bring in enough money now to survive fully? so perhaps it's time to assess your options under professional advice and take the consequences that goes with that if your saying you have no or little money so you can avoid these leeches altogether in the future, it can be done x

OP says there is no DD, sounds like a CPA to me, so the best thing is to open a second account as they will just keep trying to take whats owed.

hi im in no way turning my nose up at food banks not at all what i was trying to say is i dont see how they can justify not helping us and reducing payments just because theres food banks doesnt mean we have to use them .also i was under the impression you need to be on certain benefits to be able to access food bank.
he did bring enough in up until 2 weeks ago when hours reduced we orginally got the loans as we waited weeks for woring tax to come through and by that time wed had our loan ammounts upped and maybe part of it was greed and stupidly we said yes we would renew we never should have i no that now x

Don't cross your fingers hoping they will help. They won't. Not until they have no access to your money.

As has been suggested, open a different bank account with an unrelated bank. On Tuesday. Then tell the employer/benefits people the new details. It's unlikely that will be time to stop this week's money going in to your old account though.

You must have something like a CPA otherwise they wouldnt be able to access your account. Go into your existing bank (on Tuesday) with a letter stating you withdraw your consent for that. There is information on this site with how to do this when/if the bank say you can't.

There are only two companies you should consider. Step Change or PayPlan.

Both of these are Free, the others you find on the Internet will scam you after making massive promises.
    CAB won't be much use.
