What this board's about

Welcome to the Credit Ratings board, set up so you can find Credit Ratings help in one place. As well as our fantastic MoneySaving community, representatives from credit reference agencies will be on here helping answer questions too.

Where to start and how to use it

First of all go to the Credit Score guide. If you've read that and still have a question check out the existing threads and read through them.

If it's not been asked you can ask yourself by clicking the "new thread" button.

To do that you need to be logged in so join the forum, it's free to do.

If you aren’t sure how it all works, watch our New to Forum? Intro Guide.

Really pleased to see this development. Should make it easier for moneysavers to find information and support on credit checking issues, and for the CRAs to offer advice and help too. Well done MSE :)

I think the credit score guide needs a little update.

There are so many people coming on here asking about their credit score in relation to a mortgage, who seem to be gaming their scores by taking out cards and not clearing the card in full.

The point needs to be made quite strongly that some of the things you can do which might boost your Credit Referencing Agency so called 'credit score' are actually things which may either lead to a mortgage rejection or reduce the available borrowing.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • whilst credit ratings have their uses and i`m sure this new forum will as well, its important to get across that credit ratings sometimes mean little or nothing and are often just one of the tools used by lenders

Glad to see this new board in action - it should make it a whole lot easier to find relevant information on all things credit rating.
