  • Well, I'm now £530 poorer, but the proud owner of a 'Mother of the Bride' outfit!

Dh and I had the day off today, and I'd heard about a shop in Stockport, Cheshire called Florentyna Dawn. If anyone ever wants a special occasion outfit, then a visit to this shop is a MUST. There were some delightful outfits and the ladies running the store were charming. They couldn't do enough for me, and scurried off checking sizes and bringing me hats, shoes and bags to complete the ensemble!
I've chosen a pure silk dress and matching jacket in a sort of lime green and brown, and a co-ordinating hat, also in silk which is the same brown, but with a slight green cast to it. I walked out of the fitting room and one lady looked me up and down and said 'Wow!' My DH said I looked stunning, so I bought it!

I'm relieved that the pressure is now off me, and I can continue making the invitations in peace, without feeling the need to surf the net looking for my dress.

Jill - Thank you so much for all your support, and for the book which wass waiting for me when we arrived home.

    Best wishes to you all,

    Sally

great news Sally... I'd love to see a photo... if you don't want to be recognised one from the neck down would do!
Hope you have a brilliant day.

  • I'm more than haappy to show you piccies, once I get the shoes and bag! The dress is being taken in a little under the arms, and it will be ready in 2 weeks. I tried it on with some stunning shoes in the shop, but they were too high to be comfortable for more than a few minutes. (I've had my hip replaced so am careful not to risk injury by falling off shoes too high!)

I feel really happy, and know that I'll look relaxed and comfy on the day.

Thank you ALL so much for caring.

    Hello everyone.

well I went to The Trafford Centre yesterday and went to Selfridges. I asked where the larger sizes were, and a very smug lady looked me up and down and said ' Oh, well some of our clothes 'might' go up to a size 16, but I don't think that really helps you does it?' (I'm a 28)
I was gutted, and walked out in tears. I composed myself and considered going in again to complain, but I didn't bother. I was upset enough as it was, and really didn't want to make a show of myself.

I'm shocked at that.. I'm a 20-22 but tempted to go in to selfridges next time I'm in to see if they'll say the same to me - just to complain. That's disgusting.

As for looking - I'm watching this thread with interest as my mum is a 22-24 so any suggestions are helpful.
  • Lellie - Thanks for the message. As you live in Manchester, can I suggest you take your Mum to the shop in Stockport where I found my outfit? It's called Florentyna Dawn, and they are the nicest ladies who will be able to find your Mum something magical. They know their stock like the back of their hand, and it's a lovely place to shop.

I have just seen this thread, I took my mum for her outfit for my sister's wedding today, we went to Boundary Mill near Colne, an easy trip from West Yorkshire. My Mum is tiny but they have all sizes and they sell designer labels at reduced prices including Eastex, Jaques Verte etc. Might be worth a look for any other occasions, holiday gear etc.

Glad you got fixed up, I have heard of the shop you found in Stockport, it's always nice to be treated as an individual not a problem.

By the way my Mum got a lovely lavender suit a cream top and a smart hat, she is very happy.

For some reason the link thing isn't working so the website is https://www.boundarymill.co.uk
