This is how the Gunfleet Sands turbines actually look.

I even found a bench for scale!
That's Clacton; that's miles away from where I live!0 -

Did I get the right wind turbines? Clacton seemed closest to them but I'd be happy to see the view from closer to where you are.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I'm not sure what you are attempting to demonstate, gadgetmind.
But here is a wider view of the locality care of google. As you can see it was taken in 2009 (before the erection of the wind turbines).0 -
Do we qualify? I'm sure we are the nearest house to this windfarm.
We used to enjoy such beautiful views but have been blighted by these monstrosities for a few years now. Can the payments be backdated?
I quite like the look of wind turbines.
Though regardless, it's certainly preferable to being underwater - which is what the nice lawn in your picture will be sooner rather than later if climate change isn't tackled any time soon...0 -

What perhaps isn't clear from that photo is that there is a huge drop down to sea level. There isn't enough water in the world to raise the sea level by that amount
And you still need other forms of electricity generation unless you are prepared for the lights to go out on non-windy days.0 -

That the camera shouldn't always necessarily be trusted as high power lenses can be deceptive.
I chose Clacton on Sea as it seems closest to the turbines, but even from there they are indistinct specs in the distance unless you zoom.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

The photo is not taken with any high power, telescopic, zoom lens. (It's just a simple lens, yes zoomed in a tiny bit to remove the road from the foreground)
I'm no great photographer, but how do you explain the clarity of the benches in the foreground of the photo I posted if the you think the turbines are just "indistinct specs in the distance"?
However I do accept lenses can distort images, as the wide angle google photo I posted illustrates.0 -

The benches are close and the turbines are far far away. About 7km away if wikipedia is to be believed, and that's from Clacton so they are much further away from Frinton.
Of course, I'm not saying they aren't visible, just that they are distant and unobtrusive.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

So when did all of the other alternatives get shelved?
What a shame we can't use tidal power, us being an island surrounded by guaranteed twice daily tides every day of the year, come rain or shine. Indeed, in some areas we are talking about tides which are the second highest in the world.
I still believe that wind power has been heavily promoted behind the scenes by the nuclear industry. It's the only way of generating electricity that makes nuclear look good.0 -

Because the nimbys managed to get the Severn Barrage shelved.I still believe that wind power has been heavily promoted behind the scenes by the nuclear industry. It's the only way of generating electricity that makes nuclear look good.
Coal and oil also do a rather good job of that.
BTW, I can recommend reading "Sustainable Energy without the hot air" if you want to understand how all the various sources of energy could play a part in a carbon free future.

It's no easy, and we have as much of a power problem as an energy problem, and will almost need an "all of the above" approach to renewables. It's also going to be *very* hard to transition without nuclear.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
