You're not going to get a definitive answer I'm afraid as everyone has differing personal experiences/opinions.
Personally, I've used 123-reg and godaddy for a number of years without any problems, but I know a lot of people don't like godaddy.
One bit of advice that I know everyone will agree with is to avoid yell.com.
Also, do you have the technical skills to actually set up the site? If not, then you will be paying extra for that.0 -
if it's a blog you're creating , wordpress is probably your baby.
Almost every host on the planet will allow you a Wordpress installation with your hosting package.
But there's much wiser men and women than me on here regarding the Wordpress and it's hosting.
I'm another one who likes 123-reg for domain names only. You can certainly buy domains cheaper, but the 123-reg control panel interface is both powerful and reasonably simple. Domain and email forwarding are included - which a lot of others charge extra for.
For basic simple hosting and utter cheapness, I use RelicHost.
I've been with them for 6 months now and have had little or no problems - compared to than some other hosts I'm with, who are charging a lot more and whose service is of a markedly lesser quality.0 -

Is this for a business/ income generation or just fun/ hobby etc?
Obviously cheapest are often the cheapest for a good reason which is fine for a bit of fun but often a false economy for a business.
Domain registration, simply go for one of the big boys like 123-reg with cashback from Quidco etc. There are possibly some that may save you £1 a year but it introduces risks that arent worth it.
Hosting depends actually on what you need. If it is just to host a single Wordpress site then its straightforward and almost all hosts are suitable. If you want to host a JSP site with custom installs required etc then your much more specialist hosting.0 -
As people say, you'll get various opinions. Personally I'm very anti-123reg and pro-1and1, but everyone has their own experiences.0

Your probably best hiring someone, the hosting is domain is hard enough without the technical side of actually building the site.
I'm guessing your in Liverpool like me0 -
If it is for business do not even consider doing it yourself. Look for a reliable, established small web design company and get a quote from them. I build websites for a living and during the last 12 years I have had many clients come to me after trying to do it themselves and messing up big time ... and in some cases actually harming their business. Try it if you like but it will break your heart.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced hosting company do not even consider 1&1. They are renowned throughout the industry as being the pits.
Have a look at https://www.vidahost.com/. They provide good service and support at a reasonable price."Some folks are wise and some are otherwise." - Tobias Smollett0 -
Sounds like you need to make a list of your requirements; so you get something you which actually meets your technical abilities and your website goals.
If it is a hobby site, then consider a host who offers a Wordpress site, which you can then customise and a control panel.
Go for someone who does the domain reg. and hosting, so you dont have to mess about transferring the name to the hosting co.0 -

I disagree. Keep domain and hosting separate, then you can move hosting at a later date without too much hassle. How do I add a signature?0 -
Agree with last poster.
For a .com domain use namecheap.com (this month's coupon code is MAYFLOWERS if you buy it this month, next month it will change)
Or consider hover.com, little more expensive, but you can call up and talk to them,
For a .co.uk use fasthosts.co.uk
but do NOT buy hosting from anyone of them
keep your hosting separate
for hosting layer7host.com - use the spring coupon code spring500
