Yes, you can easily redirect the name by changing the DNS settings but it can take up to 48 hours for the changes to propagate. In my 12 years in this business I have never known any server to be down for this length of time.

What complete nonsense, vested interest in the sector?

The majority of 'professionals' aren't even professionals, more like someone doing a little bit on the side, setting up a blog here and there for a few mates.

How will it work bad, in what way? The majority of 'professionals' will use one of the main blogging packages, they are all setup the same, they all run the same, regarding the design, again moat will just use some freely avaliable skin and change a few bits to change the colours etc

There is absolutely no reason what someone can't setup something as simple as a blog and do it just as well as a socalled 'professional'

haha just insult a profession due to the fact you are tight with your cash.

You obviously have no idea what a "web designer" does, a designer designs, a DEVELOPER actually builds the site. (need me to slow down? I know I'm moving fast here.)

I challenge you to build a site as well as me. 13 years in the business and developing sites and apps for international brands verses your erm... sorry please do list your skills since it's so easy.

I love people like you, you are the type that makes a complete mess of your site and have to employ people like me to fix it.

Don't listen to the naysayers who reckon you need a web designer. What tosh. Most web designers are useless. The decent ones cost good money.

That's the point, if you want a good job you need to pay for it. If someone offers you a site for £50 run as fast as you can.

Any of them can happen within minutes but they can also take several hours or even a day or two. That is the nature of propagation. Namecheap recognise this themselves as shown in their forum.

    what a load of nonsense.

nothing wrong with US web hosts as such. AND in fact they are 5-8 or so hours behind us better to use them.

If uptime is that important, pay more for a premium service.

Haha, so you would advise someone such as the op to approach someone like yourself at what will probably cost a couple of grand for a simple blog site? Really? Well, I think we can see where your priorities lie....

The op wants a simple blog, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why they need to use a 'professional' for this, they don't need a site designed from scratch, they don't need a team of developers working on it, they don't need someone to do seo and all that at nonsense.

Are you trying to say a simple blog set up with say WordPress, who have spent millions on the development of their software, which has every kind of plug in that a person could need, that dies all the basic seo out of the box, are you saying it's good value for money to pay a 'professional' a couple of grand to get something like this?

Unless a person needs some specific thing for their site, there is no reason why an out of the box solution won't work for any kind of website, and every if someone did need something specific, it's highly likely and our of the box package will be much better anyway.

As you seen to like asking people for sources, I think it's only fair if you point us towards your portfolio, where you have built every part of every site....

Who gave you all of this information? Are you in personal contact with the OP because he/she has not come back to tell US exactly what he/she wants?

You seem to be one of these uninformed 'experts' who does not know what they do not know. You should not be offering advice on something that you clearly know nothing about.

The op doesn't seem to have a business and sounds pretty tight for funds but has posted about possibly starting a small local charity so my guess would be its about that.

Of course if the venerable professionals stopped throwing their toys about and waving their boy bits at everyone they might have picked that up.

In which case then I doubt the op wants a mini Amazon site made by the honourable professions although I am sure they could do this as they are very talented artists, so we are told repeatedly. (did I mention I am Elvis? must be true its on a forum)

Its pretty easy to buy a domain and basic hosting pack, knock up a site (even Word can save an html page), ftp it up - job done. Millions of us do it for free.

Of course the true mark of a professional is in how they conduct themselves, being aggressive, abusive, insulting and arrogant is unprofessional and I wouldn't hire anyone like this, too much hassle!

You forgot 'sarcastic', which given the nature of your own post is quite surprising really.

I am a professional. Perhaps you could tell us where I or any of my professional colleagues 'repeatedly' told you we were 'talented artists'?
