Ideas for a light snack/pre-lunch please!

A friend & her partner are coming to visit this weekend - I haven't seen her for many years but it will just be a quick catchup. They suggested 11.30am & have arranged to meet family later, presumably for lunch.
So apart from offering a cup of tea and a biscuit, I'm looking for ideas for nibbles without going over the top. I'm sure they're not expecting anything at all, but I'd like to offer something! Any suggestions please?

I'd probably do a cake - something that goes well with coffee/tea like banana bread or a fruit crumble cake. For mid-morning you could also have things like danish pastries and croissants.
It's not really the 'done' thing here but back home (Canada) we'd have veggies and dip (fresh cut up veg like carrots, celery, peppers, mushrooms, cucumber) for a savoury alternative - it's tasty and healthy and the sort of thing people can just pick at/nibble on.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

I would offer cake too, maybe a couple of different kinds, or fancy biscuits.
Mmmmmm cakey......0 -
Bit of cake, or a toasted teacake (yum). If you want to be healthy, how about some crudites? Peppers, carrot, celery cut into sticks with some hummus (yum)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I'm now considering having cake right now instead of breakfast.

I think biscuits, cake are adequate. Perhaps some beautifully prepared fruit?
Too much when you know a family lunch is planned is as Short on consideration as providing nothing.
I would dislike crudit!s with coffee personally, though we often have it as a light lunch or supper or before supper.0 -
I would probably opt for something like cake or cupcakes/muffins....and maybe a few fancy biscuits
Basically you want to be offer them something, but you dont want to be left with a lot of food if they dont eat it or decline coffee/tea ....make sure you pick something that you can use up with the family over the next couple of days if its not eaten.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I'd check first that the family meeting is in fact for lunch. It seems a very tight time frame for them to be visiting at 1130 and still have time to move on somewhere to eat.0
