Lending money to someone who is a bad risk-but family

I would not lend it to her. Either say you've changed your mind and give one of the reasons mentioned above; or insist on knowing what it is for (after all it is YOUR money, you don't want it to go on something immoral/illegal) and then buy/pay whatever it is for her.
Do not lend it unless you are happy to see the back of it.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Don't do it.
You'll never get it back and it will end up creating lots of bad feelings.
No matter what they say, you'll never get it back, I can 100% guarantee you. What the Deuce?0 -
HI
it depends how much and whether you can afford to not get it back. As someone mentioned previously if she has a bad track record only lend what you can afford to lose unless she is prepared to tell you what for and then only if you think it is important enough to never get it back.0 -
No - no - no! Don't lend this person money, for all the reasons already explained.

I agree with all previous comments.
As somebody who has lent both freinds and family money in the past - as somebodey said previously, if they don't pro-actively give you the money back, you somehow become the bad person for asking for the money back !!
Just be polite but firm and say you haven't got any spare money - you do not owe anybody more explanation than that.0 -

Tell me about it ! I'm a 'deranged mad woman without a life' because I still, after a year, refuse to let him get away with it. Well, he's got away with not ever paying me back I guess but I won't let him forget me !
Have all you folk out of pocket given up chasing ?0 -
I still remember the 2 pence I lent to a girl in my class in primary two(about 7yrs old) that she borrowed to get her packet of crisps(they were toamto flavoured KP crisps:rolleyes: )- they were about 4p. In those days you could buy a packet of Polos for 3 1/2 pence, so 2p was a lot of money to me. Never gave her anything of mine again,Ever!
Learnt my lesson early on-but I did used lend money to my sister in later years, when I was 15yo and had a Saturday job- she'd spend her wages on going out, then borrow from me at a rate of 50% interest:money:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

i have this mate(so called) who has borrowed money off me and says "give it to you tomorrow",then i get call "oh i'll sort it out in a couple of days" and then wants to borrow more, had to wait weeks for it,it can be the same with family, they borrow stuff and then its returned broken or never seen again,
i try not to lend anything because it always ends up with bad feelings or in row
esp where family is concerned.
sorry this is negative but its my reality.don't get mad do yoga0 -
"Have all you folk out of pocket given up chasing?" arushofblood
We were told we would have the loan returned the following month. Should have known better! A few months ago I mentioned it and received £50. Nothing since though but will mention it again.
Hollydays, hope the money is soon returned to you.
Good luck0
