So I see what looks like O2 overpricing the s3 lte so they can shift their old s3 stock? seems plausible. also compare how close the s3 mini is to s3.

Contract with unlimited calls, all listed have same monthly price.

S3 Phone is £50
S3 LTE phone is whopping £250
S3 mini phone is free
S4 phone is £230 cheaper than S3 LTe

On payg they have the cheek to charge the same for the S3 as the S4, and the S3 mini is almost half price which is way different to the contract pricing.

anyone make sense of why they doing this?

    /thread.

Besides, you can get it much cheaper via a third party.

what 3rd party? just saying 3rd party doesnt help anyone.

if you mean like carphone warehouse etc.all similiar prices, and ebay cost more.

but I am scratching head why a s3 costs more than a s4.

    The S3 is much cheaper.
The S3 LTE is more expensive because it's an LTE Phone. You can get it for around £400 on PAYG or roughly the same price on contract.

No one's going to buy an S3 LTE on contract, hence why the networks only have a limited supply and high pricing. But the S3 LTE doesn't cost more than the S4 from T-Mo/Orange/CPW/Voda and others.

But anyway, networks have set price plans now and it's more the upfront cost that varies than the price per month. Only third parties like Mobiles.co.uk will do it cheaper on a monthly basis.

    .

You are comparing price with upfront cost, these are very different, as only EE offer any kind of 4g service at present then there should be little rush for a 4g device unless you are in a service covered area, and even then the service is at a premium.

the thought was about future proofing as not all of us change our phone every year.

whatever your thoughts on the cost of the phone its improbable the addition of 4g chips and extra 1 gig of ram amounts to £250.

If I ordered the phone from europe its the same price as the normal s3 with no premium at all. this premium seems something uk retailers have dreamed up.

However since its unclear if when O2 activate their 4G if it would even work on existing contracts or need new special 4g contracts I am happy to just get the normal S3 now.

If you think that you can get an S3 LTE or an S4 at a good price now, the why don't you? Buy it from Europe, it'll work in the U.K.
They still work on 3G, you dont need to use them on a 4G network, and you will have essentially futureproofed yourself already? I guess it depends on whether the price is good for you now and whether you're ready to buy now.

    yes here is price comparisons.

    holland vendor in £

    S3 £320
    S3 LTE £329
    S4 £450

    O2 PAYG prices

    S3 £400
    S3 LTE £650 O_o
    S4 £400

I think everyone here is avoiding the question, whats going on with O2 prices? Its as if they dont want to sell any LTE S3's, and are to stubborn to drop S3 price with S4 launch.

also on most contracts the s3 mini costs the same as the s3.
