There's more to life that an ever expanding population, using of resources and putting ever more pressure on wildlife.

Humans bring cats. Cats round here kill off already scarce creatures such as grass snakes and slow worms. The Human pest knows no bounds.

Actually I see a 3 pronged strategy working quite well here, I will say I know this can't work as stage one isn't simple but stick with me.

1, with there is 2 million unemployed kick out 2 million immigrants.

2, now there is 2 million vacancies, the work shy really have no excuse, take the job or receive no benefits.

3, if some still refuse to work maybe start an exchange program with other countries, for every worker they send we send a work shy chav back.

As said I can see many political pitfalls, but the logic is sound.

Neither 1, 2 or 3 are going to happen.

As with most things moderation is probably the safest approach.
    - Reductions in benefits to make work, comparatively, more attractive.
    - An acceptance that getting the long-term unemployed to work is going to cost money in the short-term
    - Using targeted immigration to help us fund the future increase in pensioners

    Seriously?

That's your reason for wanting to destroy the economy and plunge the nation into a depression for generations?

I believe Conrad was commenting on that small matter of quality of life.

It is surprisingly relevant for those who work to live, as opposed to those who live to work.

If I wanted to live in Mega City One, I would emigrate to Judge Dredd's home town. ;)

Less than 4% of the Uk is built on.

    I prefer reality to hyperbole.

I agree the current situation just says build more and up the percentage.

But lets keep going with you pyramid scheme system, how long before its 100%, then if we slow down immigration how long would it be?

What percentage would you consider "enough"?

I would suspect that the figure is quite a lot higher if you take areas like the Highlands out of the equation though.

    pyramid scheme

It's been explained to you throughout the thread that nobody is looking to keep increasing population forever, just to allow time to transition to a different system while maintaining living standards and the economy.

Is there a reason you refuse to listen?

Well, obviously I don't consider 4% "too much".
I would suspect that the figure is quite a lot higher if you take areas like the Highlands out of the equation though.

Or a lot lower if you take areas like London out.

Seriously, why bother making statements like that?

"If you exclude a big part of the UK, it would be higher/lower. "

    So what?
