Today what happened was someone asked to collect because they live in my town. I'm sure we've all done it.
But do people realise the difference between a business and a casual seller and what it would look like to the neighbours and police if you had cars rolling up to collect 99p items all night?
I don't have facilities.
Where I work is behind a shop, there no access to it, and up a fire escape.
So people want me to take goods home for them and wait in for them to collect so they can save 99p. What if your home insurance doesn't cover working there or the goods, when they fail to turn up and collect?
This guy this afternoon said it's ridiculous he can't collect from the same town, but no doubt I would go to all this trouble so he can save a few pence.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Actually Ballisticbrian, that raises another 'thing' that I have started to notice. A few months back I started getting endless questions asking whether they could collect if they won, I hav eno problems with that so said yes as long as the time was conveninet and they would pay cash.
Then nothing, they would never bid, not even try and bid, but a few days later different IDS on different items would be asking 'can I collect'
I can see no point in a number of different people asking near identical questions, and then not bothering to bid- and it has just started up again. Two people asking about two different items on my private account, neither bid and both items went unsold.
What's all that about?
I actually don't really like collection as I am fed up to the back teeth with facebook buyers and their endless excuses after the event as to why they didn't bother to turn up or email me to let me know- but needs must sometimes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I wouldn't like people collecting either, so I don't put the actual town name on my listings to avoid that.
Although I think business sellers are obliged to do so aren't they? I suppose people think if you are a business you should have a collection facility, it may be about time too rather than cost.
I can see both sides tbh.0 -

Maybe they forgot to bid, Or it went for too much money?
I used to pick stuff up from all over. But with the fuel costs its usually cheaper to pay for a courier now.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

just some thoughts on collections.
I ask quite a lot as the things I want to buy are expensive to post and I stay pretty central to a lot of places. However I'd never get upset if someone said no.
You can search by distance from a postcode so not sure if it matters if you have your town on the listing or not.
Often I will ask and then set a snipe, if the bidding goes past this then I wont have bid, or sometimes the reply comes too late for me to set my bid.
Collection can work but it has to suit both parties but i dont see the harm in people asking.0
