Does anyone have opinions on the alleged lack of apps on the Windows phones? I done a lot of Googling the other night and it came down to either the Nokia 620 Lumia or the Huawei Ascend w1. Both these phones are Windows 8.

I am wondering if I might regret not going for an Android because of the apps?

Lumia 520 allows an additional MicroSD card I believe and is going cheap at the moment. That would be my recommendation personally.

It is going for £99.95 plus £10 top-uo. That seems to fit the price perfectly and if you don't need the top-up save it for your next holiday or sell it on.

If you want to have a huge selection to choose from, you need to buy an Android phone. There are millions of apps for Android phones, and most of them are free. I bought the new samsung galaxy fame last week and I think is a good value for money.

    Cheers

The main difference between the 520 and 620 seems to be the Led Flash and front facing camera. Aprt from that I found a review that said the web broswers which was said to be integrated into Windows 8 can be sluggish - I would not want to be stuck with Internet Explorer.

As for the Sumasung Fame, It gets bad reviews and I just don't like the look of it. The Motorola Razr is being voted hot on on hotukdeals right now. I'll probably wait longer before I make my decision.

With regards to apps. I don't know how many I would want. I sometimes read ebooks, play poker online, I like to make notes in my phone, I would like some kind of GPS app for finding local shops / bars etc. Maybe Androis is better? I don't know? I have had the W810 walkman phone for about 6 years.
  • Granted the Motorola RAZR i is a not inconsiderable 50% more than you are looking to pay but blimey at £150 it's an absolutely incredible bargain and would have much more longevity than any £100 Android phone.

Hmmm, yes the price. 120 or so was a stretch. I have been sending stuff back recently which I purchased online - laptop and SLR camera. I think I will be better off to wait before I make my mind up.

I am thinking the 620 is worth the extra when you look at the extra feature differences, downsides seem to be slightly smaller screen but same resolution 800x480 and better spec, and a fewer camera features, and looses the auto upload(might be others?).

(thanks for the thread we are looking for new phones around the upto £100 as well)

Just bought the Huawei G7220 from Tesco @ £30, quewrty keyboard, touch screen and all the usual extras. Locked to Tesco Mobile but £20 will unlock it.
  • If you don't want to use tesco mobile it works out cheaper to buy it SIM free from Argos (£40).

Never looked in Argos:o. Better deal as also free delivery. Suppose I'll just have to wait 12 months and get the free unlock as none of the usual unlocking sites can help yet.
