Options
Just need to rant!!
Last night i went to bed at 9:30pm since i had an exam (finals!!) the next day (today).
Settled in bed, i heard lawn mowering...ok i thought it will stop in half an hour.....
It didnt!!!
The damn thing was on till at least 11pm, at times sounding like he was mowing rocks!!
Even if you worked nights, surely you would do it at the weekend???

check with the Noise pollution dept of your local council, it might be an offence to do things like that and dyi after a certain time of day.

I know it's probably annoying if you have reason to go to bed early but personally I think 11pm is fine, any later and it's a problem. Most leases say to keep noise down between 11pm and 7am which I've always thought to be reasonable.

When it didn't stop, why didn't you just go and have a polite word?

11pm is just plain inconsiderate no matter what anyone's lease says. I'd be having a polite word if it were to be a regular occurrence since most who have work/school/kids to think about are likely to be in bed at that hour.
  • Try earplugs if you have another exam coming up. Maybe approach the neighbour if you think they are approachable ? It must have been so annoying when you know you need your sleep. Hope you have done well anyway in spite of the disturbance.

Big lawn. Is there a reason you didn't ask them to stop?

Its hard to know whether to get up when by the time you get downstairs or out the door they could have stopped.

Im not actually sure what neighbor it was, all our gardens back onto one another but the view is obscured by trees!

I don't have another exam till a week on saturday, i think it was a one off on the mowers part, just very unlucky timing!

Not if the person operating the mower works weekends as well.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

If you live around Derby - It was probably me, particularly if the same inconsiderate !!!!!!! left the house at 5:30am to take a car to Newcastle :D Not everyone has the benefit of office hours and days off.

You're young, you'll cope, when I was in my final year I was doing a house up and working full time nights. Plenty of time to sleep when we're dead :A
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?
  • I would just accept it and move on, mowing is a once in a while thing its not going disturb very often, though i understand why you where annoyed.
