My LO loved his and it was great in early stages of weaning.
However, not a necessity and am pleased I didn't pay full price for one. It was only used for a couple of months..
I got mine brand new at an NCT sale for £10.

I use mine for sitting DS on the counter beside me in the kitchen, or sitting him on the patio when I'm hanging out washing - it is a bit more portable than the bouncy chair we have.
However, be warned, I should think an angry agitated baby is capable of arching themselves out of it - I never leave DS in it when I'm not in the room. (He has a temper! )The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
They are one of those items that are handy to have but not an essential by any means.
Perhaps it would be worth mentioning that you would like one if any friends/relatives ask you about buying gifts for the baby? People are often stuck for ideas on things to buy and would rather buy you something useful.
The good thing about Bumbo seats is that they hold their value really well. You can easily pay £20+ for a second-hand one on Ebay but will be able to sell it on for a similar price once you have finished with it.0 -

Had to google image as I couldn't think what a bumbo was. Please don't use them like the picture above- leaning over on a worktop edge:eek:
Can the child sit in it under their own steam- it looks a bit difficult with that big bit in the middle in the way-if it is meant to hold them upright then they aren't reasy for it, omho.
http://www.kiddicare.com/invt/hcpfishtybstz or similar would probably last a bit longer- you can use it to boost their height at the family table when they are big enough, and is small enough to take to Granny's too.Or just use it at floor level.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

babies shouldn't be put in anything that's then sat on a table or counter top0 -
Freecycle.
My friend got hers by asking for it in the freecycle group of the next town along as it was far more middle class than the city we live in!
Free bumbo in excellent condition.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Basically you put child in it when they can support their head...then baby sits alone as the material it's made of moulds to the shape of the baby under baby's weight.
Been a lifesaver for both of mine as they loved sitting up and seeing around them, but didn't yet have the motor skills to do it alone. Cushions and any amount of propping resulted in them falling in about 30sec.
DD certainly hated her bouncy chair as soon as she could support her head-Bumbo came into its own at that point.
Have pics of both of mine sitting in front of the washing machine in their bumbo...would keep them amused for ages.:rotfl:Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I did this with my DS, she loved sitting on the counter in the kitchen while I prepared dinner. Then one day she grabbed the edge of the counter and pulled herself over, although I was stood right next to her I could not catch her in time. She landed head first onto our tiled floor.
She passed out and we took her to hospital, luckily just a big bump and bruise and concussion.
It made me run cold when I heard you say you do this. I bet there are loads of mums who do, my Bumbo was in the bin the next day.
Sorry to cause any alarm, but I would not want anyone else to go through what we did.

Thanks for typing this.
It happened to me too, except DD arched her back out of it in a sudden strop and arched onto the kitchen tiles.
no passing out, but I certainly never put Bumbo on a high surface again.
I feel better to know it happened to someone else...hope you feel better too knowing that you aren't the only one.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
