Go for it! I'm going to get myself one for next yr when I take my dd to the pool.
I've only ever seen one woman wearingone, admittidly she was a large woman but I've equally seen skinnies wearing what I think they call Boardwalk shorts?1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

Hi Gremlin,
I feel for you on this one - I'm around the same size and have stretchmarks on thighs (feel worse about the stretchmarks than the weight - even felt bad about them years ago when under 8 stone -daft of me as all part of life). I think the swimdress and the idea of a sarong both sound great.
When I went on holiday last year, I just wore a pair of waterproofy shorts over a swimsuit - went to the hotel toilet and couldn't get shorts back on after wet from the pool - my daughter and I laughed about it and I went back through the hotel in just the swimsuit.
However, I am going on holiday next week and will be sitting by the hotel pool in nothing less than a pair of linen trousers and a t-shirt, whilst the kids play in the pool. My very supportive husband and children will, no doubt, try to encourage me into the pool, but I will be happy to say no (something I don't say enough-to children anyway)-as I will already be going to Theme Parks etc to facilitate them.
This may seem as a cop out or cowardly to some but I am going on holiday to relax, soak up the rays and chill out, not to be a hero or try to overcome a hangup or phobia. I'm not going on holiday for a tan, don't particularly want to swim, and will be happy to read my kindle beside the pool fully clothed.
I'm not advocating this - just giving another viewpoint - holidays are hard to come by in these austere times and, above all, you deserve to feel relaxed and comfortable.
I hope, whatever you decide, you have a great time.0 -

Have a look at Simply beach and surfdome. They will give you loads of ideas of what you could wear and how you could cover up.
Last year I wore seafolly bikinis and had a tunic type top to cover up. I also have their beach shorts and roll trousers which are really flattering. The trousers look fab with a bikini top and sun hat!! Dont forget to go through quidco if you buy at simply beach or surfdome.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
I'm a bikini girl myself but I think the swimdresses are channeling the retro / vintage theme that's popular at the moment so if you find one you like, go for it. In fact the old lady style swim hats with flowers would prob top off the whole retro look - although poss not practical for holiday
Wear what you feel comfortable in, enjoy your holiday and try to forget about what anyone may or may not think. Most people are too wrapped up in their own holidays to notice anyone else anyway.
Have a fab time x
btw just found this on eBay

Wear a swimsuit with a sarong and you'll look like every other woman wearing them. Wear a swimdress or a kneesuit and people will look at you and wonder what on earth you're wearing.
Ouch ... That's harsh!
I somehow doubt that would be the case. They can look very flattering indeed.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
Second vote for Tankini top and shorts ..
Look out for A line Tankinis like this one http://www.swimwear365.co.uk/products/lascana-navy-polka-dot-underwired-tankini/_/A-811050_10B
and team up with dark cotton shorts like these from Matalan

I'm considerably larger than you OP and have worn a swimdress for the last 6 or 7 holidays. They give me more confidence and are fine to swim in (and no bikini line shaving is an added bonus!) I used to be the only one wearing one but I see more and more of them on the beaches and around the pools now.
Wear what YOU feel good in and to heck with everyone else xSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0
