  • i agree with everyone else and would advise you to pay off the citi card as the interest rate is so high. ok so the barclaycard is a smaller one, but if you pay a whack off the citi one this month, it'll be that much smaller next month and you''ll be that much closer to clearing it.

I just think that although we all know the sensible thing to do is pay citi because of the interest rate, but IA needs to do what will give her the biggest boost. If that means clearing barclays first then that's what should be done. Citi will get its turn.

Not as small as the £174 that would be left on barclaycard which we could clear by end of june....
True, but the two debts being under £1000 just sounds nicer to me. £1398 to £595 just sounds like a huge chunk GONE.

You could get the Citi card to just under £1000 and then pay the rest off the Barclay card?

Could you split the money so that both cards have the same amount owing on both of them?

By paying £633 off the Citi card instead of the Barclaycard you'll be saving yourself just over £4 in interest a month.

It might give you a boost to clear one off, but it's not the sensible, money saving option.

I would say to pay it off the citi, cos then you'll have 2 totals to aim for over the next 2 months, as opposed to paying off Barclays & then trying to get Citi down.

I like the flipping a coin to see if you're disappointed idea though!

How long will it take you to raise the £174 that'll be left on the barclaycard? If you could do that within a month or two, b*gger the interest rates and get shot of it. Then you can really focus on the citi. Sure, it's not the prescribed MSE route, but for the time period we're talking about it won't make a huge difference and the emotional boost from ditching a debt completely could well be worth it.

You could pay another £270.83 off the citi card, then pay £307.12 off the Barclaycard.

That leaves the Citi Card at £1000, and the Barclaycard at £500.

If you think of each debt repayment as £500 a month, that leaves you three payments from being debt free and with £55.05 towards the first payment.

I'd go for this idea I_A :) Though whichever you choose doesn't make that much difference overall, you've done amazingly well to clear so much debt already over such a short period of time. It is whichever makes you feel more 'sorted' in your head about your debts.
