Sorry, I was just summarising my experience, which is that AAT is being squeezed out by ACCA/CIMA part qualifieds and grads. They are more ambitious and trainable (as a stereotype) for the same money. Having said that AAT is worth something, as is your experience, so you are probably over qualified for NMW roles.

The 50 odd CVs was after filtering by the agency and HR, just the ones that cross my desk. Your application may not be reaching the boss of the area you are applying to. Our purchase ledger is dealt with mostly in India and the Czech Republic. Invoices are scanned here then all the accounting and payments are handled from there.

I wish I could help more, I hate recruiting now because I know I'm turning away people desperate for a job. if you won't consider being a full accountant then you may be better doing ATT so you can do self assessment work from home, that is expanding a lot and can't be off shored. Other than that only small and medium companies are doing purchase ledger domestically now and I guess many aren't hiring. Something like The Local Bookkeeper franchise might be an option for you.
I'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.

    .

Not hitting hiring managers desks as I have said agencies will not put my CV forward and if its a direct job you have no idea if the CV has been read out of 300+ CV's and when I do get a reply its you are out of work or this is a junior role.

I wont consider being an accountant as too old to study now and not that clever haha
