That's a prime example of the lack of a "can do" attitude that may well be part of your problems. Setting up a book-keeping or small accountancy practice has never been simpler and cheaper.

You can prepare and submit VAT returns, payroll and tax returns via the HMRC website completely free of charge.

There are free basic book-keeping packages you can use widely available to download from the web. A full ledger based system can be bought for just £130 if you need more.

You can use free spreadsheet software to create book-keeping, schedules, annual accounts (P&L & balance sheet) to an acceptable standard.

Book-keeping and basic accountancy has a remarkably low "entry" cost. Basically, a computer, printer, broadband connection and you're away. You don't need to be "a practice" to do it, you could offer your services as a freelancer on the various websites.

You don't have to be "an accountant" to do this. The AAT qualification should have given you skills regarding basic book-keeping, accounts preparation, VAT and payroll - that should be adequate for the vast majority of small businesses and private individuals.
How does me not wanting to be self employed stop me from getting interviews????

Sorry? I 'can do' a lot of things but not run a business and have 2p to my name so yeah I will just pluck £130 out of thin air to set myself up as self employed and earn nothing at all.

I have never wanted to work for myself and it seems to most to be a easy way out when its not or we would all be self employed wouldn't we.

Some of the people on here, are disgusting because of how they speak to people who are out of work. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Just because you're good at book keeping, Pennywise, doesn't mean everyone else is... And just £130? That's about thirteen weeks worth of food budget for somebody on JSA.

That's quite an over-reaction to what Pennywise was saying.

AP007 said s/he was experienced with accounts.

The £130 was being suggested as the maximum that would be needed, and Pennywise said there are free packages available.

And I talking about getting a REAL job not set yourself up for a fall and have no £ to do it with not even 1p to my name.

Like I say if it was so easy we'd all do it

I was only suggesting it as a way to get recent work on your CV so employers will be more interested.

If CV's are being read as there are over 300 for each job it matters not what the CV says until it gets read and I cant attach a £50 note to each to get me to the top of the pile.

But you said you can't get interviews because you haven't worked in 6 months, and temping agencies won't take you for the same reason.

So I was trying to think of ways that you could find recent work to cite.

Temp agencies are the same as the agencies who do full time perm work.

Working for yourself when you do not have 1p to your name is not the best idea.

Clearly AP007, the problem is two-fold:

1 - you want to find a job. Government agencies are only interested in finding jobs for those who don't want one; and
2 - you want to find a job because you don't have one. As you have discovered, private agencies are only really interested in people who don't need one.

To solve 1 you need to make sure JCP understand how much you enjoy waking up in the afternoon; spending your dole on booze and fags and ocassionally drugs and watching endless sh*te on the TV.

To solve 2 you should contact individually all the working people who are selfishly applying for YOUR jobs and dissuade them with threats and menaces if necessary. (BTW I am available to perform the latter function for a small fee.)

Ultimately, AP007, you are doing nothing wrong. It's simply as Dickens entitled similar 'Hard Times - For These Times' (which is helpfully set in Coketown <sniff>).

Hopefully, the job for you isn't too far in the future.

You have stated the length of unemployment has been a big factor.
Someone suggests a good way to get some employment on your CV.
    You make excuses.

Working for yourself when you have no money is the best time to work for yourself, you have NOTHING to lose.

See, it is your attitude which is your biggest problem.
