Hudson1984 I have meet with 6 agencies and now they wont help me as they do not have to and the employers are paying them not me
'you can't answer with "no cloths" now can you?'
Eh? that's in reply to doing gardening not getting a job in accounts. I have plenty of posh clothes
I am sorry but there are a lot of people who have been out of work 2 years or more as I see them at the Work Programme
You tell me how I make a company interview me when they tell me I am over qualified and the job would be no use to me? Nothing I can do or say will make them see me. For roles paying a low salary or something more junior than I am used to will not see me.
I applied for a few jobs late last night and when I got up this morning at 8am the bog standard thanks but no thanks emails came over from 2 of them saying I didn't meet the criteria but I know I have as they want 2-3 years exp and I have 20 so I cant see how I don't fit the criteria and all the job spec I could do.
Ask for feedback and they cant give any

Good luck with the search0 -

I've been in your situation, getting hopelessly depressed at the fact no one wanted to employ me even for junior jobs that I could do in my sleep, for roles that I once managed.
It's easy to become negative and think there's no way out, but that leads to a spiral of depression and negativity, and it shows in your body language even if you get an interview.
There's no easy answer to your problem but you have to seize any opportunity, even if it may not be exactly what you were expecting.
I managed eventually to get a decent job (Project Manager) after almost 2 years unemployed, bankrupted and spending months sectioned in hospital. I now earn very good money in a highly skilled job. I had to lie on my CV to get it (fudging some dates to hide the two year gap by marking it as self employment) but I'd do it again in a heartbeat if it meant the difference between being in your position and being in mine.
ETA: I'm not suggesting that you lie on your CV. I'm just saying what worked for me. Personally I think that Daedalus gave some pretty solid advice. Even if it wasn't suitable for you, it might give you ideas on variations to try.
The alternative of course is to wallow in your self pity as you become less desirable to employers every day and resign yourself to never having a job again, at least not one above NMW.0 -

You're being very, very defensive to someone who was trying to help.
Hudson had typed out a long post with suggestions about possible ways to get them to interview you. Maybe you've already tried those things... but we don't know that. There was no need to bite his/her head off in response.Mortgage when started: £330,995

I have to say, up until about 5 months ago, if I'd have seen a post about someone not getting a job within 6 months, I'd have been like "why? They can't have been trying, they must be doing something wrong"....but that was until I found myself in the same position

About 5 months ago I was made redundant after being at the same company for over 16 years, and since then, have done all I can to try and find myself some new employment, but have faced a lot of the same barriers as you have. I've heard the "you're over qualified" one a lot
Also, even though I have a qualification in Business Admin, that means jack s**t! When I apply for Admin jobs, all people see is that I've worked in retail for the last 16 years.
My JSA stops mid June, I'm ok with this (well, I have to be), and I'm lucky that I have a supportive OH, but this is a position I don't want to be in, and didn't think I'd be in, and I'm sure that goes for the OP too, people judge (I was one of them), but until you've actually been in this position, you don't know what it's like.
I applied for a job the other month (that I REALLY wanted), never heard anything back, so requested feedback off the directgov job site, never heard anything back, so I took the bull by the horns, and went round there myself. When I said to the manager that I thought I'd missed out as I hadn't heard anything, he replied "not necessarily", and that even though the role I had applied for had been filled (they had 197 applicants!), that there might be other avenues coming up, took my contact details, so hopefully I'll hear something back....fingers crossed!
Fingers crossed for you too OP!0 -
That really disgusts me.Today an agency said they could not out me forward for a job I had applied for as I had been out of work for 6 months or more and all their clients want no one who has been out work more than 6 months
Unfortunately it is an employers market, hence all these Victorian zero hour contracts, but the reaction you got takes the biscuit. I am assuming you are over 25 hence your best bet is to take on some voluntary work (don't call it voluntary work - it is work). Don't get disheartened, I had worked for 25+ years then spent ages languishing on the dole and getting no replies. Keep going and you will find something - just keep the CV plugged.0 -
I'm a Financial Controller, the last vacancy I had in my team I must have had at least 50 CVs. I was impressed by covering letters that understood the industry my company is in and showed an understand of the scale of the company. I had lots of people telling me they can do tax for example, I have a tax department and a payroll one, I'm looking for cost controllers. These days I can be very picky so I can pick someone who wants to learn, has an eager attitude and who really wants this role, not just a job.
I have to get along with them too, I'm going to spend hours with them so personal presentation, speech patterns and listening skills are important too.
I've looked at AAT qualified people but registering and starting to learn CIMA or ACCA would help you. AAT is relatively low grade, for that type of work I'd take a graduate and train them to do CIMA. AAT people are expensive for the skills they can offer in my experience.I'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.

CIMA or ACCA would not help me as I do not do Tax or cost control and no desire to be an accountant or anything.happycamel wrote: »I'm a Financial Controller, the last vacancy I had in my team I must have had at least 50 CVs. I work in Purchase Ledger and to be fair 50 CV's is noting as most jobs have at least 300 applying and that's just to agencies.
AAT people are too expensive? How when I am applying for jobs at NMW
