You have stated the length of unemployment has been a big factor.
Someone suggests a good way to get some employment on your CV.
You make excuses.
Working for yourself when you have no money is the best time to work for yourself, you have NOTHING to lose.
See, it is your attitude which is your biggest problem.
You are saying my attitude to NOT wanting to go self employed is stopping me getting a job! What a crock of !!!!!
Sorry I have £71.70 a week to lose I think - sign off and have no ££ yeah that's a good idea!
And you can not say I have a bad attitude - all statements telling people who are out of work to start their own business is just people talking crap as they have nothing else to say on how to get a REAL JOB!!!

He doesn't have the money to pay for the set-up... Although if I'm honest, you know that, you're just a troll who likes to attack the unemployed.
Try to think for yourself, don't believe everything Ian Duncan Smith/the Daily Mail propagate
Anyway, shouldn't you be on the other thread, blaming Muslims for random/non-specific acts of evilness? 0 -
How many of you work self employed?
I was self employed for a few months whilst I was 'unemployed', it made a very good talking point in interview, shows business acumen which is highly sought after. I didn't make massive amounts of money, but it allowed me to honestly put something on my CV.
There is next to no reason why you can't go out and try and sell your time, gardening, washing windows, washing cars, handy man, anything will look better on your CV then sitting on your !!!!.0 -
So you are self employed now? No? Yes? Here we go when I say this I bet your reply is 'you have the wrong attitude'
I have no clothes to wear for washing cars, handy man (I am a girl!), gardening etc
I could try it in a skirt and high heels as a novelty LOLWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
ok so without going the self employed route (i've actually set up a business for ZERO outlay before but couldn't commit the time to it so it is possible but not for everyone) you say about sticking £50 to get your name at the top of the pile - no you can't do this BUT you can give the agency a call after each application, ask more quesitons about the role and show willing, if you're against 300 other people then you have to be the most willing or you wouldn't get an interview regardless of anything.
Lets go back to the beginning rather than continuing the conversation the wrong way - since 2010 what efforts have you made to get a job? no i'm not trolling i'm actually asking a serious question, i.e applied for jobs weekly, online? at agent? how many?
If i was looking to employ someone i'd have the same worries and bare in mind how you feel when you are working, you feel safe and to an extent you take that safety for granted in such a way that you can't understand why other people aren't at work. Like it or not that is the attitude you're up against so what have you done to get past it?0 -
Well you are making excuses, rather pathetic excuses. You say with your big old brain you have no means to get hold of one set of clothes? If so, you have bigger problems then your attitude.0

I do call the agencies and they ask where are you working, how long you been out of work then oh we cant help you if you have been out of work 6 mths or more but will keep your CV on fileHudson1984 wrote: »ok so without going the self employed route (i've actually set up a business for ZERO outlay before but couldn't commit the time to it so it is possible but not for everyone) you say about sticking £50 to get your name at the top of the pile - no you can't do this BUT you can give the agency a call after each application, ask more quesitons about the role and show willing, if you're against 300 other people then you have to be the most willing or you wouldn't get an interview regardless of anything.

I apply for jobs all day every day even Xmas day - up to 60 a week or so
I have sent over 600 spec applications in two years
Over 30 agencies have my CV
Online accounts at the following site and use these and a lot more every day
Like I say unless the company direct wants to interview me I cant not make them and no one else can
If they are getting over 300 CV's you may even not get read!

Set of old clothes?
That is answer on how you get people to take your application seriously?
You are now blocked as you seem to be here just for an argument! We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Because it was a means to an end. I didn't want a long gap on my CV so I did odd jobs that I could put down on a CV and explain at an interview. It worked, the feedback I got was 'Not many people show entrepreneurial spirit and get up and go'
Yes, you don't turn up to do gardening in a suit...
It isn't rocket science, you just want to blame someone else.0 -
ok, breath! you want help and advice so chill - forums tend to get peoples back up and you're obviously stressed but calm...
I can recommend CV library, got my last two jobs off there so can at least vouch for it's success rate yep another one to add to the list but hey that's what it's all about right.
have you been into the agencies too? face to face? get talking to agents if you can, try to befriend them people help friends it is and has always been about who you know. what would you prefer if you were an employer an agent phoning with
"hi got a great candidate, really well presented and lovely manner had some time out of work but looking to re-enter the industry...blah blah blah"
-or-
"hi got another CV that might be of interest however has been out of work for three years"
you have to get these people working.
Also remember the questions people have asked above are what employers would be thinking, so how do you think it would look at an interview when you answer questions in the same way?
"so tell me, how come you've been out of work for three years? ever think about working self employed?"
you can't answer with "no cloths" now can you? employers will be thinking your lazy for not finding a job, yep that's harsh and unfair but it IS true you're going to have to accept it and move on.
I've never met you and never spoke to you and I sit here thinking there's no way you can't find a job in three years. The reason I think that way is because i'm not in your situation and neither are recruiters or employers so you have to beat that by being damned active and have answers even if you lie and say you've spend three years travelling!!
maybe not a "you can get a job if you do this" post but I hope it's food for thought0
