Do I have to accept a refund - I want a replacement!

Apparently the makers of nook are trying to make more of an impression on the UK market - many thousands have been sold in recent weeks at less than half price.
Translates as they can't shift the stock without heavy discounting and could even be pulling out of the market and the retailers just want shot of them.0 -

Or a loss-leader to expand a same-language valuable market where Kindle and Kobo are doing really well, hoping for a slice of the action of selling dirt-cheap digital rights at near print prices if they can only get their platform into enough hands.
Could read either way.0 -
Only thing I can suggest is perhaps try contacting NOOK direct to see if thy will hold one for you to exchange out. It's unlikely as your purchase was via Argos not directly through them but they may be able to offer some help or suggestion. No guarantees obviously but you don't know until you try I guess?Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

You could wait until they get new stock, but a new one and return the old one with the new receipt?0
-
That would be no good in the OP's case - they received a US version and I'm pretty sure the retailer would notice they got the wrong item back.0

I'm fairly sure I wouldn't have a problem getting a refund out of Argos but my refund would be £29 and the new stock would be full price - £70!
I think I'll contact Argos asap before the other 10,000 find out that they also have the US version, and see if we can come to some agreement. Thank you all for your replies!0 -
MamaMoo's suggestion is pretty good. Buy a new one at £70, put the old one in the new box, and return it for £70 back.0

And what happens when Argos or Nook discover that the item returned was not the one originally supplied?
They may not notice, they may notice and ignore it, or they may notice then decide to do something about being defrauded.
If this last scenario were to happen, would the people who think that it's a good idea be willing to pay the fine if the OP gets prosecuted?0 -
You can get the glowlight nook from nook.co.uk or John Lewis for £69...so if you have to accept the refund from argos (which I think you will), really want a nook and can't get a simple touch for less than £70, it's worth trading up to the glowlight version.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
