Benefit sanctions on families

I am working 25 hours a week at minimum wage. My partner doesn't work and I have a primary school aged daughter. My wages and tax credits have to keep all 3 of us. Things at work have gotten really bad, work load has at least doubled and lots of staff are walking out. Jobs are really scarce where I live. I was wondering if I left my job what are the likely benefit sanctions likely to be for us?. I expect some type of sanction but it wont be my partner or daughters fault I couldn't take anymore and walked out. Will we get enough to live on as a family or am I stuck in this soul destroying job?. Please advise.

If I were you, I'd be trying to get as much overtime as possible, and possibly your OH a job out of this.
What exactly is the issue with work?

you will still get your child benefit and child tax credits - if you currently receive working tax credits then this will stop. Sanction could be 'up to' 26 weeks.
Is your partner looking for work?
I would stick it out and start looking for another job if you are unhappy, if jobs are so scarce it could take a considerable time to get one.
tax credits for 25 hours minimum wage one child appear to be about £135 per week and would drop to about £63 if you are both not working...so you would lose your wages plus tax credits of about £227 a week total to be replaced eventually with JSA of £112...doesn't really help your situation unless you would receive more housing benefit etc0 -
The problem is the work is far too much for me. the work load has been increased greatly with no extra hours or pay. they say I will get time back but never do. I have to wait ages for my holidays and never get them when I want them. I am mostly on my own as the woman who works with me is always off sick getting sick lines. I am exhausted and depressed. I dread going in to work every morning.
Does anyone have any idea on the sanctions situation please?0 -
My partner is looking for work but its hard going. He signs on for income based JSA but gets no money as my money is supposed to do all of us.0

As someone else pointed out, they can sanction you upto 26 weeks. While i appreciate it is tough, and you have said that unemployemnt is high in your area, would'nt it be better hanging in there and looking for something else and if people are leaving maybe your partner can apply for a job. You could go from one problem to the next if you start having money worries through sanctions and both of you claiming benefits.0

Just carry on working but only do what you can manage, if your employer doesn't like this then they will either sort the problem out or get shut of you, either way is better than walking away from your job.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

well you'd be sanctioned if you were thinking of claiming jsa but not for your child benefit or ctc0

I understand I will be sanctioned but what about my partner and child?. Are we all supposed to live off my £62 child tax credits and £20 child benefit a week?. Three people?. and I have to pay £40ish a week to my rent, what will happen there?. These are the answers I need.
About 15 people (1/4-1/3 of the staff) have left in the last month. The bosses don't care about staff, only money so they wont listen to me. Ive tried to get a new job for about 6 weeks and cant. I don't want to have a breakdown in the meantime....0 -
I suggest you approach this in a different way.
Go to CAB (if necessary take a sickie) and ask them to take a look at your contract and see if they can suggest how you can sought out your work problems.
If you can be seen to go through the appropriate channels to get things sorted out at work and work does not co-operate then it could be that you could leave work and claim constructive dismissal. This way you would not be sanctioned.
However, you need to be guided by CAB and go through the appropriate process.0 -

3% of CD cases are successful at tribunal. You should not be recommending that path without a great deal more information. Added to which, these things tend to get out, and taking an ex employer to tribunal will not help you get another job.
OP, as tough as it is you need to stick this out until you (or your partner) find something new. You will be a much more attractive candidate if you are currently in employment.0
