T-mobile tethering?
Hello,
I posted recently about Three Trafficsense and my intention to replace broadband with mobile internet via my phone
I was tethering today from T-mobile Full Monty sim only plan I have that isn't supposed to include tethering (from 24th december 2012), but it's unlimited data, and when tethering my speed tests would seem to indicate that the speed caps do not apply, I've been browsing with ease, using google maps and iPlayer with little to not slow down.
I looked into any problems with tethering on the plan and some say they get blocked, others say they get away with it, but with the ASA recently banning T-mobile from calling its FM plan "unlimited" I read the plan now permits tethering, according to a PC pro article (I can't link, I'm new)
I'm really asking because I pay sim only £26/month for that deal, but I found an offer of Full Monty with HTC One for £26/month + £45 upfront and I'd be happy to sign up for that if I know I can, or am unlikely to be caught tethering, and in the worst case, tether with a cheap PAYG sim.
So does anyone know anything about the block, or if the rules of tethering have been lifted/altered?
Cheers
Chris

No, the tethering block is still there.
But you're correct. Some people get a block, others get around it fine. Others have used it for a while then been blocked.
At the end of the day what matters is the T&C. The T&C state there is no tethering allowed and that T-Mobile have the right to stop you at any time if you break T&C. There is also no tethering add on for the full monty plan.
So at the end of the day it's up to you. Officially no. But i know people who do tether occasionally and it's fine.
However if you plan on using loads of data/tethering regularly then i would say it's not worth the risk as they can pick up on it. Plus anytime during your contract T-Mobile could start doing what Giff Gaff/Three etc... are doing and strictly enforce their no tethering policy by just cutting you off for tethering/redirect you to a block page.
Like mentioned before. The only plan at the moment which includes truly unlimited data and tethering with no speed cap is the one plan from Three.0 -
Ok, well I may hammer TM for the next month or so, find out if I get caught and if I can get around it, as for coverage I ultimately want to stay on the EE network, they have in my view the mist reliable coverage and a good 3g network too.
out of curiosity, would you happen to know if Three offer discounts for adding another contract to an account? My partner's iPhone 5 is in my name on Three
cheers

I have found this link which seems to suggest tethering is okay on EE and T mobile
http /help.ee.co.uk/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1016&PARTITION_ID=1&secureFlag=false&segment=consumer&TIMEZONE_OFFSET=&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=20152[/url]
Anyone seen it before?0 -
Take the spaces out after http for link to work. As a new user wouldn't let me post otherwise0

Thanks, but a bit late, already switched to 3, better reception in my area.
For anyone interested I never got caught tethering on T-mobile, I did it for at least a month and used easily 150GB+ per month.0 -
I don't see what the problem is, why are service providers so afraid of tethering. Does it really make a difference if you prefer accessing web pages using a tablet, rather than a phone, what the hell, you're still paying for it. Pretty soon we will all have to refer to the terms and conditions before making a phone call, there are so many, can't do this, can't do that clauses it makes me sick!0

Am on theffull monty 45plan which is a scilly name and even more scillier now for me as I cannot tether so it's clearly not full monty for me. What I wanted to check is whether or not I have a case should I ring them and ask about the bar which is clearly evident as I can no longer tether the wifi anymore?0
