I do hope you manage to get it sorted. #TBH, I think the previous poster has pretty much covered everything.

Despite having nothing to add, I checked out this post, because we llived next door to a dog that barked constantly when it's owners were out.

They left the llights on, TV etc., and the ruddy thing yapped, yapped, and yapped. It really did put a strain on neighbourly relations. In the end, i suggested she turn the light off at night, which did seem to help. Didn't stop it barking during the day though, and I really could have throttled it, or her LOL.

My mum'sdog barks. She's had complaints. A bark collar has worked for her, and she also fills toys with treats, and hides them. I don't know what more you can do.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
  • Hi

I am also going through the same problem, We have two dogs one 7 and one 5. The one that is 7 is the dog that is doing the barking. He has been doing it for a while now but gets better for a few weeks then is the same again. We have also had the neighbours saying about the noise when we go out and its getting quite bad. We have tried all the bark collars ( they are not cheap) the one cost neally £80. But things we have tried
    - Spary collar - its gives the dos a little spary when the dog barks - Our dog was not bothered by this when we got home it was always empty
    - Shock collar- Gives the dog a little shock when they bark - Again this didnt work and people have mixed feelings about this one. It was expensive we sold it again.

    - Kongs-you fill these will different things we use marmite and peanut butter and then put other treats in and the dog spends time licking the filling out. These can be brought from most pet stores about £8 for the big one.
-We also have a crate which we put him in on a night which he doesnt mind but he brakes out of it if we put him in it when we go out.

We have also tried sitting in the house messing with the keys and with our coats on so he gets used to it.
We have read sooo many webiste about different things to try leaving the radio on or TV when you go out also, Some are so silly leaving the dog with a sitter or taking it with you most of the time its not possible.

Well now we are looking into a behaviourist and we are going to talk to the vets but its all expensive but as its something we have not tried yet. I hope this has helped and a good place to look for bark control which isnt too expensive is Ebay. We have sold things on there that havent worked.

What type of dog is it? And does he make and damage when you are out at all? and Where do u keep them?

I'm sorry to hear you're having the same problem. A behaviourist or trainer is the best thing you can do though as your dog is very unhappy when separated from you. There are several things they may suggest to you and it won't be solved over night but in a relatively short period of time you should have a happy dog and happy neighbours.

Dogs shouldn't be left for long periods of time (rescue organisations suggest between 4 and 6 hours as the maximum) but you should be able to leave your dog without it stressing you, him/her, and your neighbours. Once you've sorted out the separation/attachment issues you'll all be much happier. Good luck with it.

The dogs here in our village in Spain are just left tied up and howl until they realise that howling won't bring their owner back and then eventually they shut up.

Not suggesting you do that.....but it does work....

    hi

he is a collie cross and before we had children it was just me and him in my flat, when i used to go out then,he did bark and howl but then i met my partner and we lived together and didnt really go out much,we then moved again into a bigger house and thats when he seems to have got worse,so the neighbour says anyway i havent heard him, even if i pretend to go out to listen he seems to know im outside listening!!

oh also when it was just me and him,he destroyed my flat when i went out,he ripped up shoes i could start naming everything but to be honest it was everything, even a full settee ... im not joking about the whole thing either hahaha..didnt laugh at the time though i must say!.

i have been looking at these collars but to be honest they are a bit out of my price range, with 2 small children budgets a bit tight(also to top it but could be an advantage to this problem partner has just been laid off!)

we leave him in the hall with the other one so room is a bit tight but im not out for long ,if im out for anymore i leave them in the kitchen and shut the patio blinds.

let me knoe how you get on with the training and i might give that a shot,as you know anythings worth a go!

    good luck to you too
appreciate what you have got x
