How heavy is your LO? And where do you live? I would suggest a nappy library as there are loads of different brands, types and sizes. I use reusables and bought loads off eBay, facebook, I've asked on freecycle, got some from NCT Nearly New Sales. There are also loads of support and selling groups on facebook if you are on there.

There are 2 main types- 2 parters where you have a cloth nappy which on its own is not waterproof and then a wrap which is waterproof and goes on the outside.

There are also all in ones (aio), they are a one piece nappy which is waterproof on its own, some have bits to attach inside to absorb the wee. These don't last as long 2-4 hours, whereas I use a two parter overnight for about 12 hours.

You will need some sort of nappy bucket, maybe some liners for keeping bum dry and to catch poo- disposable or reusable ones are available. A wetbag for putting dirty nappies in when you are out and about.

Washing them is something else you'll need to look into, people tend to say non bio, I use Fairy and miofresh nappy sanitiser.

It sounds really complicated, but truely its not! Also once your LO is about 10lb they can use the birth to potty (btp) which does what it says one load of nappies which will last from birth to they are potty trained- does depend how big your child gets they say around 9lb-35lb.

    I hope this helps

One thing to think about is drying time. All in ones do take longer to dry. Sorry, any other information I have is 15 years out of date.

Some councils offer an incentive scheme to save money on nappies as well, worth checking out. We have been using reusables since we got home from hospital and full time since she was about 6 weeks and grew into her birth to potty nappies.

They do sometimes come up on freecycle or there are plenty of facebook groups where you can buy second hand. Brand new they're a pretty big investment up front but pay for themselves in the long run. You can of course still go for terry squares with some sort of cover which is the cheapest option but folding and getting them on a baby gets harder as they get more mobile!

Little Lambs often have good offers on if you check their website, they sell two part nappies that need a wrap as well as all in ones.

Your local council may have a real nappy advisor - ours does. She came to see us and talk us through the different options, costs etc.

We bought 2 part nappies ( an outer layer with a pocket that you put booster pads into - fast to dry and adaptable as you can put in more layers for overnight).

I have an 8 week old and am about to start using them again, so saving even more money (used them with my older child first)

This is perfect timing as I was just looking into these today! Has anyone used mother ease? My mum has found some online for £2 a nappy and same for wraps. I'm afraid I don't know much about them yet but I'm keen to know which ones are the best/most cost effective!

Lola888 forgot to mention pocket nappies :)

We used FuzziBunz pocket nappies, which were excellent once kidlet reached about 10lbs. Happy Heiny's were also very good.

As a newborn, our preference was for the soft and fluffy Kissaluv used with several different branded wraps. Our fave was Bummis Super Brite Cover.

I found 2 part nappies very bulky, including mother ease. I use pocket nappies, I have some lollipop pop n grow which I got through the council scheme. I also bought little bloom nappies off amazon and eBay. They are cheap but work perfectly. I tried little lamb and lollipop bamboo but took ages to dry. Mother ease and one life dried quickly but was bulky.

I would go with this, Wendy is great. I love my nappies but you need ones which fits your baby and lifestyle. Have a look at the reusable wipes too, they save a fortune and are fantastic.
