How to let go of anger?

Options
How do you do it? When you are really angry about something but you know it can't change, you can't do anything about it and you can't ever say out loud all the things that are running through your head?

I hate feeling like this and usually I am very good at letting anger go but today I just can't.

Any tips? I don't want to feel like this, it is toxic :(

get out of the house and go for a long walk, blow off the cobwebs, you can stew while you walk and eventually it will dissipate. Distraction is a good technique for me, so I don't stay home where I have a tendency to brood if I'm in that kind of mood, I get out and do something for a few hours.

Write it all down on paper, it gets it out of your system. Having it down in writing stops your mind re-running through whatever has gotten your angry and because it is written down your mind can revisit what actually happened when you have had a mental break from it.

I am a little bit scared that if I do that, I won't be able to walk away from it afterwards, if you know what I mean. Seeing it written out will make me feel like I should do something about it.

didn't you say that the situation couldn't be changed? How about screaming and throwing a hairbrush around your room (I have resorted to that in the past, just to get some kind of release).

That's because it is still in your mind and you are angry ;) I wrote (typed) 7 A4 pages some 4 years ago and still have them. I don't need to look at it anymore but I like to keep it just in case any of the issues are ever raised again.

I hold a glass of water in my hands and visualise the anger pouring through my arms and hands into the water ('see' the water changing colour if that works for you), and then pour it down the sink. The first time I did this, it was like taking a diazepam, it worked so well, so I've used the technique ever since for anger, anxiety, stress etc.
