Fibre install - Free to move master socket?

I do not think you will need a krone inserter.
The line in (A and
on the NTE should be screw connectors.
You will not be connecting anything onto the faceplate which are insulation displacement terminals.
Obviously make a note of which colours go onto the A and B in the kitchen and trace them back to the blank in the hall to see what are the A and B colours of the incoming cable. Then connect them to the cable to the lounge, the normal pair to use is blue/white band and white/blue band.
The power on the line is only 50volts so not life threatening, will give you a tingle but slightly more if someone rings while you are touching the line wires.
Good luck.0 -
OK, just to put you in the picture. I was surfing merrily this morning, went away to do something and my connection had been lost. I assumed TT / openreach doing something at green box.
The Openreach guy arrived, saying he'd only be about ten minutes. He was pleased that I had cleared my desk so that he had easy access. He had it connected and out the house within half an hour.
Yes he changed plates and said nothing.
Prior to him coming I did a talktalk speed test which was:-
3.04Mbps & 0.52Mbps
and now:-
18.59Mbps & 1.82Mbps
seems OK to me!0 -
I think we have a problem.
My daughter visited and tried to connect to my wife on her mobile. She clicked on the network, entered the password, after a second it disconnected.
I have just tried my android tablet. I could see there was no connection when I looked at BBC/Sky news.
Went to seetings, tapped on wifi, recognised the network and conformed, entered password and confirmed. I saw "saved secured with WPA/WPA2 then up came Authentication problem.
So, I then looked at the only piece of literature I have and read :-
" If you want to connect additional computers to your broadband once your Fibre Optic Boost is up and running you'll need to use the guide that's in the box with your router- just follow the step by step instructions", but the engineer left with bits & pieces, paper stuff etc, so no doubt the item I may need, has long gone.
He didn't ask if other things would require my wifi. I did say will the password remain unchanged and he said "yes".
So, what now?0 -
Have you spoken to the ISP? Googled the error?
Google would be my first port of call, if no joy there then calling the ISP.0 -

PPPS SORTED!
It seems the password changes from whatever you had before, to that which is on the new talktalk router, letters/numerals which are case sensitive. I changed it and connected.0 -
Crisis averted. The openreach engineer connected the extension in the lounge direct to the cable coming in the house, put the master socket on there and job done

All the other extensions no longer work but thats fine as I was going to remove them anyway0 -
So, we're two happy bunnies so to speak, ha ha.
As an aside, did you do a speed test prior and after?0 -
I had no broadband before as we just moved in so nothing to compare it to.
At the cabinet the guy said it was showing 40 down. Speedtest.net is showing about 20(ish) average over wifi (wireless G showing max signal).
The green cabinet that I can see from the window is a Virgin one and the BT/Openreach one is about 1/4 mile away so there is loss over the copper to the house.0 -

Two things. I am aware that TT do three options for speed, I selected the middle one £10 pm reduced to £5, so when I say and quote, I suppose I should add my choice of option.
and, when I told the engineer I would do a speed test whilst he was here, he said something like "you won't get the same as me", so lord knows what that's all about.0 -
Sky offer 40 or 76 down. I went for 40 down as thats plenty compared to ADSL.
At the cabinet will be max speed as its fibre all the way but after that its a lottery.
The engineer will test from the cabinet and there will be loss down the line to the property. How much depends on the distance, quality of cabling, etc.
At least now I can replace the 'in house' extension with better cable if needed and the mater socket remains in situ in the lounge as the install the previous owner did isnt the tidiest.0
