1 week to go before I call O2 Retentions! Help Needed!!
Hi everyone.:hello: I have been totally addicted to MSE for a couple of weeks now and thanks to all the hints and tips have managed to halve my home telephone bill and have sky+ fitted free! I have to say that I find it difficult to bargain with the companies which is why I am here now!
My 18month contract with O2 finishes next week so it is time to phone retentions and I am confused and a bit nervous over what to ask for! At the moment I am on Online 200 which gives 300 anytime minutes and 750 txts for £30 a month.
Can anyone help as to what sort of deal I can expect? I would like to know what to ask for so that it can all be completed on the first phone call as I'm not going to be any good at ringing back and asking for more! I also need a new phone so what would you recommend?
Many thanks for any help you can give!

Thanks Niccy. Was thinking more along the lines of N73 as am bit of a photo nut! Will keep the Motoralo Pebl in mind tho!0 -
If you're phoning, I recommend just asking for your PAC code from the customer service bloke. Don't ask to be put through to retentions or anything. Also, make sure that you're aware of what other service providers are offering, so have a look at Vodaphone, Orange, T-Mobile, CPW etc.
When they ask you why you're leaving (they should do this), just mention you saw a plan/phone on another network that appealed to you. The person at retentions should then start offering you something. If you don't like what you're being offered, simply say it's not matching what you're seeing elsewhere. Depending on your current contract, you might find that O2 are more willing to deal with minutes and texts than handsets, so pick your desired handset carefully. If you're looking for something new(ish), you might still have to pay for it.0 -
you can tell them that three mobile have a 500minute for £15 for life with a free phone. I'm sure they'll match that and beat it. don't budge from that. if you are firm, i'm sure you'll get it. they'll give all kinds of excuses like, "oh, you don't use that many minutes" or "we can't go lower than £25 for that", but say, that's not good enough.
a good tip is to go to the orange, t-mobile, and three websites to compare the tariffs. don't bother going to o2 tariff page, they're rubbish. if you're not upgrading on o2, forget about getting a good deal as a new cust. do your research first.
and use https://www.saynoto0870.com to look for an alternative 0800 number to call to customer retentions.
i just managed to wring a good deal out of o2. i was on offpeak 1000 to o2 mobiles and landlines for £20. i managed to grab 2000min offpeak xnet for £15 and the nokia n73. on top of that, i managed to get £10 credit because i complained that the customer service weren't very helpful.0 -

There is quite a long thread on here about O2 retentions. Don't read it all, as it goes back a couple of years, but you should be able to get ideas of recent deals from the last few pages
