Just got my 11 year old the £7.50 deal at Tesco. 24 months and free HTC Desire C (Wildfire Replacement). 100mins, 5000 texts and 500mb Data. I think they also do a SIM ONLY which is same price but 200mins of calls.

OK it's no iphone but a good entry level smart phone which does her fine. Sign up through Quidco and get £7.50 back also. Downloaded Watsapp so she can send free pictures messages too.

Capped it during the order process and you can also prevent Premium numbers and texts.

Small price for peace of mind when playing out.

It's not a bad deal, but 'peace of mind' costs no more than £25 in total.

I'm amazed you did not get VIP from virgin unlimited mins, txts, data for £15 a month rolling 30 contract.

    Best deal around IMO

I know what you are saying but it's a birthday present and there are a lot of chores to be done for the ongoing months. I did think long and hard, in fact this deal was £10 a couple of weeks ago, it was only when it dropped to £7.50 I considered it.

The problems with most PAYG phones these days is that to maintain a data bundle you have to do continuous top-ups. I'm not going to miss £7.50 and there isn't going to be a worry she has no credit on her phone.

Ignoring that it was a birthday present, 150m+200t+500Mb p.m. are available for free on Ovivo. Extra minutes cost 8p/min without any bundles.

Also, I think that you have to worry if it is capped contract.

Didn't know about them, shame very good value. It's done now but I'll look at them next time, not exactly worried at £85 a year though with this Tesco one.

Capped contract will warn her when close to bundle and you can put a PAYG top up on then if they need more.

Although just seem you have to put up with adverts which could be a pain, and not forgetting there is a £70 free phone from Tesco? So pretty much swings and roundabouts

Some people have hinted at it, but without doubt if you are putting your child on a contract, you MUST get a capped contract.

My DD's was £17 a month with an S2 15 months ago. She got a boyfriend and the bill went to £80! I nearly died as for £2 extra a month she now gets unlimited!

My son will be going for the £7.50 Galaxy Ace Deal Tesco have currently as it is capped. I'll never take out an uncapped tariff for a child again.
I am firmly across the line. I won't impose my values on you if you keep away from mine.

The phone isn't actually free, it's 'included' in the contract and a reward for contracting to pay Tesco £180 over the next 24 months with no get out clause. Pairing the Ovivo SIM with a far better phone like the Huawei G510 wouldn't work out any more expensive imo.
