Victor 2 and Millitentbystander, just to update you, I complained to Npower pretty much as per my note above, they have waived the £60 exit fees (they had no choice really) and I also made the point that the DD discount is in effect a further price increase so I have requested a pro rata refund, they have said they will pass the complain to their executive complaints team who will in turn issue a "deadlock letter" and I can then approach the ombudsman. I will be amazed if the ombudsman doesn't agree with me and am frankly staggered that they have tried to get away with it. I URGE ANOYNE WHO HAS BEEN SOLD THIS TARIFF FROM LAST OCTOBER TO COMPLAIN IN LINE WITH MY POST ABOVE.0

Not wishing to put a damper on things, but I would be amazed if the ombudsman does agree with you.
And presumably nPower think likewise, as otherwise they would not risk (a) the large cost the ombudsman will charge nPower to investigate your complaint (if it is not immedaitely thrown out as without foundation) and (b) a possible precident being set for other customers claiming.
The terms of the contract are quite clear and those are the terms you agreed to0 -
I tend to agree but if I've interpreted the gist of the new OFGEM proposals correctly npower's annual discount sneak may be coming to an end....0

I was also caught on this trick by Npower, when they call a traiff "January 2014" or "August 2014" to give you an impression that it is fixed, dirty trick I must say. I cannot wait when January 2014 will come so I could switch from Npower to a supplier who respects their customers.
I guess they are increasing the prices to pay the TAX WHICH THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PAYING FOR THREE YEARS !!!
Of all energy suppliers I have been with, NPOWER IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER
Its no trick. How can anyone say with a straight face that because a tariff has a date after its name, that a company is implying its fixed? Its your fault for not reading the terms and conditions of the tariff, I changed to it online Jan 14 also, read the T &C's it stated clearly it was a variable rate tariff, you've only got yourself to blame...0 -

They do have a choice, and would've probably done it as a mark of goodwill. What might be a kick in the nuts for you, is the Ombudsman has the ability to rule that npowers offer to waive the exit fee's was not necessary, if they deem it so, and enforce that you pay them, along with dismissing your pro rata request, which does seem a little ridiculous, given the circumstances of the complaint.0 -

If you work for npower (or indeed for any company within the industry) under the rules of the board you are obliged to make that clear in your signature. Just a heads up.0 -
Like the previous comments we have all been miss sold something that we thought would save us money. On the telephone they tell you it is fixed, but when you fill in on line things are different. I have complained to npower and all they have said is that I should have read the small print. I now have 6 months of reasonable costs and 6 months more expensive, that is the way they make their money. I am going to take it up with BBC' Watchdog and Trading Standards and then we will see how clever they are. The more people that do this the better.0

Further update... I have found a new supplier but this is a point of principle. I have contacted the EU energy commissioner and the EU competition commission with the details of this, and to my surprise they have both responded and asked for further detail and have given an assurance that they will investigate, moreover they have asked for copies of the relevant documentation. Their initial assessment is that it constitutes anti competitive practice. I contacted Npower to let them know and they have re-opened my complaint.... no surprise there. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a can of worms.0

I informed them I was moving supplier on 31/05 and they told me the £60 duel fuel exit fees were being waived. They also put my account on hold so that I wouldn't be subject to the price rises on 1st July whilst swapping supplier.
I happened to log into mynpower today to check all was ok. The early exit fees were on there!!! I called them again and a 'manager' will take them off for the final bill. Also, my account was NOT on hold! Told again that would be sorted. Poor Npower customer service to the last.
My switch takes place on 8th July. Expecting some fun with the final bill. DD cancelled (as it is due 11th July after I have switched). They can send me the bill and when it's correct they can have a cheque!
Will be glad to get shut of the whole bunch of them!
So anyone who is leaving it goes without saying to keep a close eye on it.0 -
I have a further issue with NPower in that they failed to set my account up properly in Dec 2012. My first bill for electricity was received in February 2014. In that time NPower imposed 2 price increases by a/. increasing the price as per the 1st July increase, and b/. switching my account to standard tarriff. As such they have applied an estimate of costs to the lower prices and then applied my submitted meter reading in Feb 2014 to the standard tarriff. An 80% price increase. Along with the complaint about the failing to bill I have told them I'm not accepting any increases imposed during a period when I was unable to effect any change. The complaint has now been reassigned to their executive complaints team. I'm awaiting a response from them.0
