I've been waiting since the start of the year to start a ISA HYP so i will make a start today with 50% of my isa and maybe wait a bit longer for next 50%0

I've also dripped in more of the cash that's sat in our S&S ISAs. I expect to be back at our target cash allocation by the end of the summer but don't feel any need to rush.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Typical. Why can't they crash big-time briefly before they go shooting up?
The chances of you "buying at the bottom" are so slim that you shouldn't really try.Oh well, at least I benefited from the lower prices for some equities in Asia yesterday. It's just a shame that it looks like I've now missed the boat for anything else

If I were buying, I'd buy today. Yesterdays drop was 3% and today's rise is only a 10th of that.0

there seems to be a lot of negativity about the market at the moment. i think that trying to duck out, then back in, is thankless, so best to just hold good investments and keep doing so for the long term. and potentially to buy more on dips.0

stay awake man. the market was up when i posted.
Oh, and TBH it hasn't really got a clue what any of the shares are worth."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -

I don't think it is guaranteed but the funds objective is: to achieve an increase of the Net Asset Value per share by more than the growth in the FTSE All-Share Index; and growth in dividends per share by more than the rate of UK inflation.
Hence why a sale for me would be ideal - more shares = more dividend which in theory should rise over time. I have about 25k uninvested at the ready for Mr Market's sale.
EDIN has changed since Woodford's arrival. If you look back at the historic financial reports during the 0809 crash the fund held a larger proportion of financial sector shares. These were dumped and AFAIK there are no mining sectors in it either. The latest letter said they are turning more cautious due to a prospect of forthcoming headwinds.
EDIN is selling above its net asset value. Wheras similar trusts, with lower charges, are selling below their net asset value. I am guessing this is because of Neil Woodfords past performance. But since past performance is no guide to the future is it worth such a premium?“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

Care to share the better value alternatives?
I have happily held IPHI for some time and been happy with them. i was surprised to see that EDIN It although now having similar top ten holdings seems to have achieved 50%/20% better performance over 5/3 years respectively. Down to the leverage, risk and lower charges?
How much greater is the risk in reality?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
