So father Ted and Mr southcoastrgi
Still cant give the evidence that says a COMPETENT person doing UNPAID work on THERE OWN gas appliance is NOT allowed!!!!
Lets see your evidence boys !!!!!!!!!!
You wont show it because you cant .It does not exist .
Now come on boys prove me wrong :jKeep in your thoughts the poor Beasts of burden around the World and curse All who do them harm.0 -
Regardless of whether you consider yourself competent (self praise etc?) I would urge you in this instance to get someone who's registered to do it for you.
You've been given sound advice so far but have chosen to argue the toss about your competence.
To be honest with you, it's not an easy job and you may well have to remove other parts to replace it.
So regardless of how confident or competent you feel, this is not the type of job to be undertaken by a DIY er.
I'm puzzled by your accusations of a closed shop in your posts as I'm fairly sure none of us here would be interested in doing the work...we're trying to help not tout for business so there is no benefit to us in trying to prevent you from doing the work other than the safety aspect.
I get quite irritated by many RGI's who love being drama queen's over this kind of thing but in this instance, South Coast is quite right and I would urge you to heed his advice.
:beer:You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -
Well explain to me the process for doing the job garethgas.
As I say I am competent I am not arrogant to a point where I wont seek advice .
And before you say it NO law or regulation prevents a Competent person doing work on there own gas appliance so long as it does not involve the gas side .Mine is a WATER leak .
You ask about "closed shop" I think the previous replies to my request prove this point .
Now can any one tell me what replacing this plastic unit involves please .Keep in your thoughts the poor Beasts of burden around the World and curse All who do them harm.0 -

Out of interest what you makes you think that any Gas Safe registered engineer is going to advise you what is required for a D.I.Y person to work on a gas appliance.
It may only be a water leak but as you do not appear to know what is involved and whether any part of the gas system may need removing to change this item how can you say you are a competent person to work on this device.0 -
I will sort it out myself OK .

As a responsible RGi i would be surprised if he does, particular as if you have to ask YOU ARE NOT COMPETENT:doh:As I say I am competent I am not arrogant to a point where I wont seek advice .
As you have to seek advice YOU ARE NOT COMPETENT:doh:that makes you arrogant in not heeding the advice you have been given already:whistle:And before you say it NO law or regulation prevents a Competent person doing work on there own gas appliance so long as it does not involve the gas side .Mine is a WATER leak .
You are correct in that no law prevents a competent person from doing repairs on their own appliance, BUT the law does deem competence to be holding a CURRENT qualification to work safely on A PARTICULAR APPLIANCE, water leak or not, it is the APPLIANCE that has the problem, and as it IS a water problem it may well be that, as you cannot positively identify the part in question due to your LACk OF COMPETANCE to do so, you my well also have to have a qualification of COMPETANCE to work on pressurised systems:wall:You ask about "closed shop" I think the previous replies to my request prove this point .
What this proves is that Competent people are not prepared to put INCOMPETENT people at risk;)Now can any one tell me what replacing this plastic unit involves please .
Plain and simple COMPETENCE, so if your not satisfied with any answer you get here, ask them of either the Manufacturers or GAS SAFE, and see what they tell you:pSignature removed0 -
OK boys ,my leak is coming from the unused port in the compact hydraulic block which houses the flow turbine .
