Seller demanding more money!

Then the emails started, getting more and more nasty demanding that i paid etc. I kept saying that it was their choice to use an expensive method of carriage and it wasnt right just to expect me to pay effectively a third more for them
In the end i complained to Ebay using the live chat- they said it must have been an honest mistake by the seller and if i was an honest buyer i would just pay the difference  not at all bothered by the nastiness i have had.
So ive paid the difference and left my first ever negative in 18 years
feel tearful and shaky as i would never have bought the bloomin things IF the real price had been stated- i'm tempted just to chuck them in a charity shop as i cant face wearing them after all of this. I'm a good buyer who always pays instantly and isnt pushy for immediate delivery yet feel like i've been punished for something that wasnt my fault
No , you've been punished for ignoring the advice on here and being daft enough to pay.0 -
Sounds like the OP is an inexperienced Ebay buyer. I echo everyone else, good advice here, strange advice from Ebay and OP shouldn't have paid. In fact she should have reported Ebay messages as abusive and left neg f/back (edit: oh she did, good) for this silly seller.
That 'advice' from Ebay live chat is simply outrageous!*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

I see the postage fee as something decided by the seller, it shouldnt have a requirement to bear relation to actual posting costs.
I couldnt care less if the seller makes a loss on postage or makes a nice profit, I just look at what I am buying, the delivery speed and then decide if the overall price is good value to myself, thats all I care about.
When I sold things sometimes have a made a profit on postage, sometimes I have made a loss, more than once buyers have only paid me for recorded but I sent special anyway.0 -

I would have thought that 18 years of (even casual) buying would qualify as experienced?
And as for Ebay live chat? I've always always had the opposite advice from them to what is clearly right and proper in terms of solving an issue.0 -
I have had to contact ebay live chat a couple of times recently, the advice given was absolute garbage, I had been ripped off by a buyer who had not sent item on one occasion and was told I was in the wrong even though the seller had accrued over 200 neg feedback in a month.
In my opinion they always seem to take the side of the person they make the most money out of!!!0 -

The seller has just emailed me to say that as the boots cost £7.92 more to post than they allowed, i MUST sent them the difference ???
How much was the quoted delivery charge?
Hermes booked via Interparcel would have charged a total of only £5.99 inclusive of VAT to deliver them. There may be even cheaper couriers.
£7.92 on top of the original cost is ridiculous.0 -
I would not have paid hun, the ebay live chat agent should never have made any insinuation as to you being a good person. The seller should have checked their costs, I have lost out several times over the years on postage, I even had one person give me a ratty email about my postage costs even though I had combined postage and the item I sent her had cost me 40p more to send than she paid. I pointed this out to her and she never replied, no sorry, nothing and she still left so so feed back. Not neg but said my postage was not 5 star. :-/ I have no idea what planet people are on. Regarding live chat they were hopeless when I contacted them. Sorry you felt so bad you needed to pay, I do think you need to contact ebay and take this up with them as to why their staff were making personal statements like that though that is so un professional x0

Absolutely not, the advice given to many of us on here over the years would have lost us our accounts. They barely know how it works at all and I would trust the advice of most of the people on here rather than eBay.
OP, I'm sorry, I think you have been very badly advised and I would be complaining back to eBay loudly, and often at the appalling advice you were given and about the fact that they think harassment from a seller is acceptable.
TBH I value the advice of ebay sellers on here, who are total strangers to me IRL, Soolin being one of them, FAR more than I do ebay LC.
This is based on threads I have read, and advice I have been given and I have read over my time on MSE and NOTHING else!
This (part of the) forum is my FIRST resource if I have an issue. It has also affected how I run my personal ebay account. I have, I am proud to say, excellent stats!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

It clearly said when they listed the item that there was a maximum postage cost that could be charged. The seller should have added the rest into the listing cost. You paid what you agreed to pay and I am sure it's against ebays terms for the seller to try to make you pay more. Plus if they have already been sent then you'll receive them weather you pay or not, and like others have said as a seller he is unable to leave you negative feedback.£2013 in 2013 challenge - £2235.75/£20130

Hi, welcome to MSE. Our threads do tend to evolve a bit and it often pays to read them all as the opening post, especially where it was posted a while ago may well have been resolved.
In this instance OP has their boots and unfortunately after their arrival stumped up the additional postage on the advice of ebay- and that is why we are still posting to this thread as we are shocked at the terrible advice that ebay gave.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
