I have been feeding my cats raw meat and tinned pilchards etc a few times a week,
I normally used 2 - 3 tins of cat food a day ( we have 3 cats)
worked out that is cheaper, and far better to feed them the supermarket chickens ( 3 for £10) it works out slightly cheaper, plus they are getting 100% meat rather than the 4% that is in an average tin of cat food. plus I find feeding them fresh/cooked meat, they don't eat as much...( cook they remove the meat from the carcasses)Work to live= not live to work0 -

Please ensure they are receiving sufficient taurine in their diet. It's an essential amino acid which can cause blindness and heart problems if diet is deficient.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Forgot to say they do get liver and hearts too...
I cant remember the mse'r but we had a great discussion over on the food/grocery board about cat food etc.. and the mse'r went through the pro's and cons of feeding fresh food to cats...it was very interesting. so this is why I have gradually added fresh/cooked meat and fish to my cats diets, with the intention of eventually cutting out tinned food all togetherWork to live= not live to work0 -
I do give my boys some raw too but frankly it is so much grief:
Macius and Fred - they run around with their portions growling at everything/everyone
George plays with it but does not eat it
Teddy stares at his for so long that in the meantime Macius and Fred finish theirs and steal his - then Teddy cries
Zara the dog will have some but tends to hide the rest "for later" - not much fun to find a chicken wing or a bit of liver under your pillow...

I do use to give raw meat to my cats, and also I was providing them milk but some of experts diverted me to a Link called Cats & Milk.0

Being extra broke this week I decided to try something other than Bozita, (especially as they've put their minimum for free delivery up to £25 now) so we gave Butchers classic a go. Its another high meat content cat food, but cheaper. The first thing I noticed was how much jelly compared to meat there was, almost a 3rd jelly in some tins. My cats enjoyed eating it, but even though I gave what was recommended on the tin, (more than the same needed for Bozita) they were very quickly asking for more, whereas with the Bozita they eat it quickly, but often leave some for later. So I agree with all those who've said it before, cheaper doesn't actually save money, you just need to feed more.
My other money saving trick was to give them some raw chicken, my little prince absolutely loved it, he crunched up every bit of his chicken wings, but Princess wasn't a bit impressed, but she does much prefer dry cat food. The only thing is now, its given him a taste for blood and he brought back a dead black bird this morning. Hubby got it off him and put it in the bin, I'm wondering if I should have saved it for his dinner and just locked the cat flap so he couldn't bring it in.
Just hope there's not a nest of baby birds somewhere sitting patently waiting for their mum.0 -

Was it brown or black? If brown, hopefully daddy blackbird will keep up the feeding of baby birds. The second brood should be just about ready to fledge now anyway. Chances are it was actually a fledgling your cat caught.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
