I was wondering do i need medical history. The thing is i used to work away from home. My surgery operates a same day appointments which is useless to me. Took strong painkillers from a relative which helped ease the pain. I have started seeing my doctor a few months ago to get the medicine in my name. The thing is do i need a long term record of taking painkillers to qualify?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

curry_queen - if i am awarded DLA do i have to notify income support office?
As any level of DLA will usually have a beneficial effect on means tested benefit it is always worth ensuring your IS office is informed ASP, although as CQ has pointed out the updating of meanstested benefits following a DLA award should be automatic it sometimes gets overlooked so notifying them yourself will be a double check.
I would also suggest that following a new DLA award you get your whole benefit situation checked by a Welfare Rights Professional, as the level of care you are awarded can impact on all means tested benefits and maybe open the possibility of a Carer's Allowance claim for your carer.

A freind at has just been tested for rhumatoid arthritis, can she claim anything?

She has had a attack recently when her knee and ankle swelled and she couldn't walk, it lasted 4 days and by the friday she was back at work, but limping a bit.

We are on our feet a lot and if she claims DLA does she have to give up her job or will she be ok on crutches as the other leg is fine.

DLA can be claimed whether working or not.

It depends on her care and mobility needs and how her life is affected overall. She could go to her Citizens Advice bureau or other welfare benefits advisors in her area and they will be able to help decide whether a claim might be successful and also help her fill in the forms.

DLA Care Component is based on the help you need & the Mobility Component on your ability to walk - or not. Specific medical conditions are taken in to account, but it's how they affect you that really counts.
  • Don't forget your problems may qualify you seperately for an additional premium on top of your standard income support.
If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!
